October 15 1999 : From an Official FOX Press Release:
"Mulder and Scully investigate a series of bizarre deaths that lead to the discovery of a 'monster' who commits murder to feed a gruesome habit."
September 29 1999: From Autumn Tysko:
"Question 1: Does the monster go after Mulder or Scully?
Answer: Yes.
Question 2: Does the Fine Young Cannibal show remorse after he's procured his latest meals?
Answer: Yes.
Question 3: Does Mulder, I'm assuming it's him based on the fact he is in more of the ep than Scully, try to use his gun to stop the monster?'
Answer: Yes.
Question 4: Does Mulder succeed?
Answer: Yes.
Question 5: Does Mulder get injured in the process?
Answer: No.
Question 6: Does Scully?
Answer: No.
Question 7: Is Scully there to witness any part of this?
Answer: Yes.
Question 8: Does Scully suffer a moment (or two) of angst as a result of this?
Answer: Not that I could tell.
Question 9: Does Cannibal Boy get hurt in the confrontation with Mulder?
Answer: Yup."
September 26 1999: From Autumn Tysko:
"Question 1: Any chance M or S or M&S will be in danger of being eaten?
Answer: No, I never felt either was ever in any danger. May play differently.
Question 2: Is 'Hungry' a comedy?
Answer: Not that I can tell.
Question 3: And if her [Gillian's] part is indeed a small one, is it as utterly useless as in... say, 'Mind's Eye?'
Answer: MHO, yes. Though the structure reminded me more of 'Terms of Endearment.' Only with even less Scully.
Question 4: Is the monster particular about whose 'live brains' he eats?
Answer: Not really.
Question 5: Is an explanation given for why Scully's role is limited (for example: she's having to go back and forth between DC and wherever this is set to deliver lab results, do autopsies, etc.)?
Answer: At one point Mulder does mention that she'd found something in an autopsy. I guess we are supposed to assume that's where she is. It must have taken a real long time that autopsy.
Question 6: Is Skinner in this episode?
Answer: No."
August 28 1999: From An Internal FOX memo, distributed over the Internet:
"Appearances can certainly be deceiving. Though a multitude of prosthetic disguises (fake ears, hair, nose, etc.) allows him to function in society looking like a normal human being, a seemingly average man is underneath a frightening 'monster' unable to control his terrible compulsion to eat live human brains. Try as he might to suppress the urges that not only leave people dead but also leave him with a maddeningly guilty conscience, the man employs every means available (including Tony Robbins-like motivational tapes) to get control of his gruesome habit. Arriving in this typically American small town while investigating one of these bizarre brain-chewing murders, MULDER and SCULLY set out in search of answers as they unknowingly place themselves in harm's way. As many of the events that unfold are seen from the 'monster''s P.O.V. as he is pursued by the FBI detectives, this is an intriguing look (a la Crime and Punishment) into the conflicted and disturbed mind of a reluctant killer."
August 26 1999: From Mara:
"Slated to air in early December. Told from Killer's POV [due in part to Gillian Anderson not being available for much filming during production - she was finishing up House of Mirth in Scotland]. Killer uses many disguises. Killer eats people's brains but really doesn't want to -- uses motivational tapes to try to cure himself (I think I love that part BTW)."
August 20 1999: Set Pics!!!:
My new best friend, Starbuck42 visited the set of this episode and snapped a bunch of pictures, which you can view at her site. Thank you Starbuck42!!
August 15 1999: From Serena:
"I thought I'd 'report' what I saw today at the 4135 East Firestone, South Gate location. It seems like the name of the fastfood joint is actually 'Lucky Boy Burger;' it looks like a typical dinner. Also, it's a child who has the cannibal tendencies. (I'm not 100% sure about that one - I heard it from the people there!) The setting is in Orange County, CA, specifically Costa Mesa. (The one white police car that said 'Costa Mesa PD' stood out from the black South Gate ones.) And that is the end for today. It was kinda boring, and the crew the said the action (w/DD and GA) is being shot next Monday and Tuesday."
August 9 1999: Rumors: From Autumn:
"I'd classify this episode as Scully lite. She's in it, but limited."
August 6 1999: Rumors: From Adam Trogdon:
"Here is the synopsis for 7X01: Mulder and Scully investigate a series of deaths commited by a man (Rob Roberts) who has a strange eating disorder for human flesh."
August 4 1999: Rumors: From Alex Krycek:
"Plot: Rob Roberts, a worker at some fast food place called Burgerlicious, is hungry -- but he prefers such food like human flesh. This is when Agents Scully and Mulder begin their investigation on strange Cannibal-murders out there! "
July 31 1999: From GF2020:
"Due to various factors, the first episode produced [for season seven] will not be the conclusion to [last season's finale] 'Biogenesis.' The plot for this episode: A fast food employee with an eating disorder -- Cannibalism."
July 28 1999: From Autumn:
"They are shooting out of order again this year. I'm not sure if it is to give DD & GA a little time to get back into character or what before wrapping up the two-parter, but the first script produced is an as yet untitled Vince Gilligan script with Kim Manners directing."
