November 4 1999: From Andy Guess:

"Kim Manners spilled some beans at Cyberex On-line (http://www.cyberex-et.com). They talked to him while standing in for Rob Bowman one day (he was sick) during the filming of Orison. Orison is the priest, played by Scott Wilson. It turns out in the premiere episodes that Krycek's working for the rebels. And it seems from the way Manners talks about him that he'll appear in both or one of the episodes, or at least be significantly referred to. He confirms that Mulder's illness comes from the black oil. This quote is about season 7: 'The agents will finally find out the whereabouts of Mulder's sister, and what really happened to her, him, and his family. We'll see where human beings originally came from. The chemistry between Mulder and Scully will be exposed in depth.' Manners will direct 5 more episodes this season."

November 1 1999: From An Official FOX Press Release:

Scully frantically searches for an answer to save Mulder in the Season Premiere of "The X-Files" Nov. 7 on Fox.

    Mimi Rogers Guest Stars

Mulder is locked in a neuro-psychiatric ward, his physical and mental health rapidly deteriorating, while Scully frantically tries to discover the cause of his illness in "The Sixth Extinction" episode of THE X-FILES airing Sunday, Nov. 7 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX (XF-703) (TV-14; V)

    From TV Guide:
"The seventh-season opener is the first of a two-part episode that begins where last season's cliffhanger left off - Mulder (David Duchovny) is in a padded cell and Scully is in Africa trying to find out why. To her dismay, Scully's Ivory Coast investigation into the mysterious surface of the spacecraft is joined by two people, both with a connection to the late Dr. Merkmallen. Back in D.C., Skinner is told by a doctor that Mulder's brain is exhibiting activity that 'none of us has ever seen.' But Skinner is able to extract a clue that leads him to one former Mulder ally who's helpful, while the loyalty of another is dubious. Doctor: Warren Sweeney. Diana: Mimi Rogers"

October 26 1999: From An Official FOX Press Release:

"The X-Files premieres its seventh season Sunday, Nov. 7 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) with the first of a two-episode story arc (part two airs the following week) that concludes last season's cliffhanger finale. The seventh season premiere episode, "The Sixth Extinction," brings Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) to the brink of death and Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) to what may be the source of all life on Earth - a source that appears undeniably alien. Mulder is suffering from a mysterious illness, locked away in a neuro-psychiatric ward. With his physical and mental health rapidly deteriorating, Scully frantically tries to discover the cause of his illness."

    October 10 1999: From MRLight2:

'When last we left Agent Mulder he was deathly ill on a hospital bed, the victim of the very conspiracy he worked for years to uncover. As these pictures from the season opener show, The Smoking Man and Diana Fowley hover menacingly in the show's season opener 'The Sixth Extinction" (Sunday, Nov. 7). Also, as Mulder's condition worsens in 'The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati,' Director Skinner tries to restrain him. Plus, Skinner, struck down by his recurring illness, tries to get an urgent message to Agent Scully in part two of the season opener, airing Nov. 14.'

Includes 3 pics: Cancer Man & Fowley looming over Mulder in hospital bed; Skinner forcibly restraining Mulder in hospital bed; Skinner in hospital bed with Scully leaning towards him. Skinner is covered with the nanotech disease he got in 'S.R. 819' but they claim this is a new picture."

September 15 1999: From Haven for the FBI's Most Unwanted:

"According to GF on AOL, a usually very accurate source, one of the dream sequences Mulder will be having from in the It's a Wonderful Life part, will be of him in a happy domestic situation with Diana Fowley. They will apparently kiss and act, basically sickening. Subtexting time: George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life learns that the life he's living is the one he's meant for, that the present life, not any dream life is that which is wonderful. Though I think Carter lost his parallel because George looks to his loved ones to determine that he should have lived, it's when he sees how his inexistence(is that a word) affects his brother and Mary that he wants to live--I'm not clear how the happy scene described works with that principle, but I'm willing to watch to find out, because I'be always held CC as the shipper god...can you say 'Movie?' Cool, see everything's fine."

To which SatyrCane responded to the spoilerville list: "The FOX memo that got leaked last week mentions Last Temptation Of Christ as the inspiration for Mulder's dream sequence, not It's a Wonderful Life. If you've seen Last Temptation, the parallel will make a lot more sense to you."

    September 15 1999: From The X-Files Underground:

Season premiere. Written by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, directed by Kim Manners. Mythology. Part 2 of 3. Continues where 'Biogenesis' left off, with Mulder in the hospital out of his mind.

Covarrubias?, Skinner, CSM, Gibson?, WMM, and Fowley will be in it.

Skinner betrays Krycek to help Scully dig out the 'spaceship' underwater and find the remaining pieces inside. Scully gets the 2 stolen pieces from Krycek. Fowley is Mulder's ex-wife?

Other sources indicate that Krycek won't be in part 2 or 3, and that Scully is the one trying to move the spaceship. Mulder's "insanity" is from Fowley stun-gunning him. Scully has a revelation of some sort.

The two-part opener takes up where spring's cliffhanger left off, with Mulder in a padded cell after being infected by an alien substance. Carter also promises 'interesting twists' involving Krycek (Nicholas Lea), Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and Agent Fowley (Mimi Rogers). Look for the Well-Manicured Man (John Neville), despite his apparent demise in the X-Files movie. [He is rumored to be shown in a few episodes, maybe 3, or only 1, and to be anonymous. Thanks Jason!]

Another source says that his appearance would be in a flashback.

August 28 1999: From An Internal FOX memo, distributed over the Internet:

"In a continuation from last season's cliffhanger, we find SCULLY in Africa standing over and supervising the removal of what she believes to be some sort of alien spacecraft. Still reeling from her first exposure to hard 'proof' of the existence of extraterrestrial life, SCULLY travels back to the United States to bring this information to MULDER. What she finds upon her return, however, is her partner in a desperate and rapidly deteriorating state of mental and physical health. Going in search of answers, SCULLY is approached by a mysterious medical scientist 'who claims to know what ails MULDER. Tying MULDER's illness into his previous exposure to the alien virus, the scientist claims that certain parts of his brain, previously inactive in man's evolution, are now coming to life. Slowly putting the pieces of the scientist's theory together, SCULLY starts to realize the implications: the newly activated brain matter (triggered by the markings from the alien spaceship) raises the notion that not only might aliens have had a role in human evolution, but also all human beings may share a previously unknown alien ancestry. As SCULLY struggles with this new information, we slowly start to see the link between MULDER's plight and all the alien mythology from seasons past."

    August 26 1999: From Sea:

"Scully works on moving the spaceship; Mulder is in really bad shape, mentally and physically (this was in the press release so it is not really a spoiler). A doctor finds Scully with the idea that something from Mulder's past is making him sick and wants to help. Scully has a revelation (no word on what that is). No Krycek."

August 25 1999: From Melissa Lee:

"Continuation of last season's cliffhanger. This story has merely been pitched and is not definite. Scully oversees the removal of the space ship. Goes to see Mulder who is going down hill fast, both mentally and physically. A mysterious medical doc finds Scully claiming to be able to help Mulder. has something to do with a previous Mulder incident. Yes, I know what that is, but I'm being cruel. Scully has a revelation. Before you go crying about Nick Lea, Chris tells me he is stuck in New Zealand on his film. Playing golf in the mountains and can't get back. Hence the shift in the ep. If he can get free, who knows. This ep is scheduled to shoot 8/31-9/10."

August 18 1999: From From Elwood Blues :

"The season opener finds Mulder locked away in a mental institution, his physical and mental health rapidly deteriorating while Scully frantically tries to discover the cause of his illness. Looks like it will be revealed that Spender is dead and Fowley is Mulder's ex-wife..."

August 16 1999: Fox Press Release:

"The X-Files will make its seventh season debut Sunday, Nov. 7 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The premiere -- a resolution to last year's cliffhanger final episode -- has been moved from the previously announced Oct. 31 date to kick off the November Sweeps period.

"The X-Files' seventh season begins with a two-episode story arc (finishing Sunday, Nov. 14) that concludes last season's finale as it brings Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) to the brink of death and Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) to what may be the source of a life on Earth -- a source that appears undeniably alien.

"The season opener finds Mulder locked away in a mental institution, his physical and mental health rapidly deteriorating while Scully frantically tries to discover the cause of his illness. While Scully's quest takes her to a faraway continent, where she is forced to confront the seeming reality of alien life, Mulder turns for help to Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), who reluctantly agrees to sacrifice Mulder's life for the sake of proving the alien origin of his illness.

"The first two episodes also feature a return appearance by Mimi Rogers as Agent Diana Fowley."

    August 13 1999: From Autumn:

"They [1013] are not waiting on Nick Lea, they are waiting on Gillian. She should be reporting to work next Monday [August 16] and is going to have to work like a maniac to play catch up for her scenes."

August 11 1999: From LC Fenster:

"Nick Lea is in New Zealand filming a movie, and will not be back until December. 1013 supposedly made some efforts to bring him back to film an episode or two, but the film company refused to release him. Good for Nick - bad for The X-Files. The 'Biogenesis' continuation should be interesting, since they'll presumably have to write around Krycek.

"Originally, there was also talk of doing a Krycek-centric episode as the first episode -- but when Nick got the NZ movie Vertical Limit, that also went out the window. This may account for the delay in shooting (I'm not sure Gillian was back from filming her movie - one reason for a Krycek-centric episode would have been to buy more off-time for DD and GA.)"

June 23 1999: Rumors: From TomBli:

In the premiere of "The X-Files" in November we'll learn that while alone with her at his apartment Mulder started to receive psychic impressions from the mind of Diana Fowley. From what he was able to take from her mind his old flame had in some way betrayed him [he suspects her of spying on him as he suggested to Scully that Skinner was]. Mulder became enraged. He made such accusations against her. In his disorganized state as well as his anger Fowley became convinced that Mulder was a danger. She fired on him with an electric stun gun and incapacitated him. This is how Mulder came to be deemed dangerous and held in a rubber room. This episode will mark a new direction in the continuing 'mythology' the main story thread of the series.
