November 4 1999: From Andy Guess:
"Kim Manners spilled some beans at Cyberex On-line. They talked to him while standing in for Rob Bowman one day (he was sick) during the filming of 'Orison.' In 'The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati,' another Samantha appears (real or not), and the issue of whether CSM is Mulder's father is brought up again. The former could be referring to Mulder's dream."
October 26 1999: From an Official FOX Press Release:
"The concluding episode, "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati" (written by The X-Files creator and executive producer Chris Carter and Duchovny), airs Nov. 14. As Scully continues to search for a way to save her ailing partner, a catatonic Mulder mysteriously disappears from the hospital, and Cigarette-Smoking Man's (William B. Davis) involvement in Mulder's ordeal intensifies. The first two episodes also feature a return appearance by Mimi Rogers as Agent Diana Fowley."
October 15 1999: From an Official FOX Press Release:
"The X-Files premieres its seventh season Sunday, Nov. 7 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) with a two-part story (the conclusion airs Nov. 14) which resolves last season's cliffhanger finale. In the episodes, Scully (Gillian Anderson) races against time to unravel the truth behind an alien relic and save the life of Mulder (David Duchovny), who is hospitalized in a semi-catatonic state."
October 10 1999: From Sea :
"A nice analysis provided by Mara concerning Part Two of the premiere's title 'Amor Fati': 'Aldous Huxley also entitled one of his essays about religion as 'Amor Fati.'
Nietzsche wrote about it too (Amor Fati): "I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful.
Amor Fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer."
Sounds to me like Nietzche wants to believe.'"
Written by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, directed by Michael Watkins. Part 3 of 3.
Mulder persuades Skinner to sacrifice him in order to prove the existence of aliens. Fowley may die.
August 28 1999: From An Internal FOX memo, distributed over the Internet:
"In the conclusion of a two [three]-episode story arc, as SCULLY continues to search for ways to save her ailing partner, the alien spacecraft is hijacked by unknown sources. Distraught over losing possession of this incredibly valuable (in terms of the information it may reveal) commodity, SCULLY now must face the reality that she has no allies in her search for the truth. MULDER meanwhile, in a coma-like state at this point, starts to envision (a la The Last Temptation of Christ) what his life would have been like if he had not taken up his all-consuming alien quest. Acting as voyeurs in this dreamlike fantasy (all this is taking place in MULDER's head), we see how the world would be a different place if our hero had not taken the road less traveled. Back in the real world however, SCULLY, no longer protected by her partner, is approached by a newly contrite CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN who attempts to persuade her that he is 'good' and simply acting in the best interests of mankind. Not knowing who to trust, SCULLY turns to the mysterious scientist in the hopes that above all else, he will be able to save MULDER. As events unfold and MULDER starts on the road to recovery, we come to understand that the scientist is a good person who unfortunately has fallen in league with the 'bad guys.' Having grown very fond of SCULLY, he will ultimately sacrifice himself to save both her and MULDER."
August 26 1999: From Sea:
"Scully is approached by CSM offering to save Mulder's life with assurances that his interests in Mulder's health are only good. Scully is more open to the doctor from part 2 of 3 who wants to save Mulder's life. Doctor, needless to say, is a bad guy. Mulder is in a coma and sees what his life would be like if he never went on 'his quest" (It's a Wonderful Life meets The Last Temptation of Christ). Doctor likes Scully and saves Mulder for her. Doctor dies for his troubles."
August 25 1999: From Melissa Lee:
"Scully keeps looking for ways to help Mulder. Is approached by CSM who tries to convince her he is 'good.' She turns to the doc from the last ep and he is a good person gone bad. He grows fond of Scully and gives his life to help M & S. Mulder meanwhile is in a coma having a Wonderful Life type dream about how his life would have been different had he NOT embarked on his quest. Shooting: 9/13-9/22."
August 18 1999: From Elwood Blues:
"Mulder turns for help to Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), who reluctantly agrees to sacrifice Mulder's life for the sake of proving the alien origin of his illness."
August 16 1999: Fox Press Release:
The X-Files will make its seventh season debut Sunday, Nov. 7 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The premiere -- a resolution to last year's cliffhanger final episode -- has been moved from the previously announced Oct. 31 date to kick off the November Sweeps period.
"The X-Files' seventh season begins with a two-episode story arc (finishing Sunday, Nov. 14) that concludes last season's finale as it brings Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) to the brink of death and Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) to what may be the source of a life on Earth -- a source that appears undeniably alien.
"The season opener finds Mulder locked away in a mental institution, his physical and mental health rapidly deteriorating while Scully frantically tries to discover the cause of his illness. While Scully's quest takes her to a faraway continent, where she is forced to confront the seeming reality of alien life, Mulder turns for help to Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), who reluctantly agrees to sacrifice Mulder's life for the sake of proving the alien origin of his illness.
"The first two episodes also feature a return appearance by Mimi Rogers as Agent Diana Fowley."
