January 9 2001: From Tvguide and FOX:

"Whatever stopped - and split - a moving car is nowhere to be found (though the driver is), but evidence suggests the obstacle was a man - whose funeral was earlier that day."

"Agents Scully and Doggett investigate a series of bizarre and unexplained deaths in a small Midwestern town. The killer appears to be a man who was previously thought dead."

    December 13 2000: From Pichufox:Q&A from Iona:

Question: Any mention of Mulder in this ep?

    Answer: No.

Question: What is this episode about?

Answer: I think.... it's about a man who dies but is somehow brought back as he slowly turns into Metal!Man. I know that's vague, but I haven't gotten those key explanations yet. I do know it has something to do with Southside Salvage and some ways of saving money. But, I haven't quite figured out the connection. But, Metal!Man is Ray and is slowly turning into this monster. If I was a bettin' woman, I would say it has the feel of a Frankenstein....in the Mary Shelley sense. The sadness of the creation....the loneliness...and the apparent horror that comes with it. A very serious ep.

Question: Does this ep fill the special effects quota of each season? Is this a 'guy' ep? should I start on the testoserone hormones now? Is anyone clad in leather?

Answer: Oh, no...not at all. Very serious.

Question: Do you get the impression that 1013 is... trying to wink at the audience, 'Hey, we got the metal man from T2 right here!'

Answer: Oh, no...not all. Quite a serious ep..

Question: Do you know/think that the 'loneliness' or implied isolation of the Metalman and the life he must live allows Scully to sympathize with his character on a human level. Is she all business or do we get to see a lil' Caring! Scully?

Answer: I haven't seen hide nor hair of Scully.

Question: So this ep is Scully and Doggett lite?

Answer: So far, this is S/D no show.

Question: Skinner? Gunmen? Anyone we know?

    Answer: Not that I've seen.

Iona wrap up: I've seen a lot of footage on this ep... ...and I have yet to see RP or GA. Not one sign or mention. The guest actor playing Metal!Man or Ray does an excellent job. I've been especially impressed with the calibre of acting this season. He is helpless as his body transforms into a metallic mess...these patches of bits of metal. It sounds a bit cheesey maybe, but it looks terrific...truly. As his body transforms, blood comes out...he bleeds from the metamorphosis. He is frustrated and trying to find an answer. In one scene, his wife (I think), who thought he was dead, thinks it a miracle...she moves to take his hand. When she does, she is cut. This 'new man' cannot be touched....nor can he touch. He innocently touches another and is startled to see he has killed her. He is vengeful, but even as he seeks vengeance he shows human emotion. I think.... ultimately, even as he is transformed into something far from human and unrecognizable, he never truly can become a monster. He is more human than those who created him....the true monsters, I think. We'll see what comes of it. "

    November 26 2000: From Pichufox:

"As Nora Pearce is mourning the death of her husband Ray, with his friend Curt, she's looking for answers and blames it on his time spent in the Gulf. As Curt drives off he doesn't see a man in the road and plows into him. However the man does more damage to the car than the car to the man. Curt sees that the man is Ray, just before Ray reaches into the car and kills him."

"Ray is staying at a halfway house, and looking in the mirror he sees he has metalic stubble growing in which he tries to cut, making his face bleed in the process. Another resident Larina tries to befriend him, but Ray tells her to leave him alone. (This reads like a pretty amusing scene actually. )"

"Scully and Doggett, investigating Curt's death, return to Nora's house, they have now realised there is a connection between Curt and Ray's death. Harry Odell is with Nora at her house, he runs the salvage yard Curt and Ray both worked at. As Scully questions Nora on Ray's Gulf War Syndrome, suggesting his diagnosis was wrong, Harry seems aggitated. Doggett mentions they found Ray's blood in Curt's car. At night Harry rushes to the salvage yard to destroy papers in a shredder, obviously trying to hide evidence. But while at it, Ray shows up. Harry obviously afraid shoots Ray at close range, blowing Ray's arm off , which is lying on the ground, only the arm is regenerating and Ray appears unfazed by his lack of appendage. Poor Harry doesn't seem long for this world."

"Back at the halfway house Ray examines his 'injuries' which are fixing themselves like solder, and the blood on his face has turned to metal flakes. Larina sees bloody clothes on his bed along with folders from the salvage yard and tries to offer help to Ray, who refuses to take it."

"Scully and Doggett follow leads of a shredded invoice to a robotics lab- Chambers Techonology. They meet Dr Purgovel, who denies knowledge of Ray and Curt, and the invoice. But keen eyed Scully spots a simulation on a nearby monitor. Chambers are trying to design a Mars Lander which reshapes its self to overcome any problems it comes across. Scully makes a Mulder leap and asks if they've tried this technology on humans, Dr Purvogel denies it, but under Scully's pressure seems to admit in a virtual sense they have. Doggett wonders if Scully is saying Ray is part robot."

"It's Doggett's turn to think he's figured it out, thanks to some blue paint on Harry's finger. Whilst back at the halfway house a now deformed spiky Ray returns to find Nora waiting for him. She doesn't care his hands are now metal spikes, she wants to help him anyway. Whilst Doggett and Scully find some blue barrels exactly as they had seen at Chambers technology in the salvage yard."

"At Chambers Technology Puvogel tells Scully Ray has an alloy inside him, an alloy which is evolving,to do what it is programmed to do."

"Ray shows up at Owen Harri's house. It was all Owen's fault, Owen says he was merely trying to keep under budget, he was told it was safe. Ray threatens to kill Owen, but Owen's little boy walks into the room, just as Scully and Doggett and the police show up. As they break into the house Owen and his son are alive and Ray is gone."

    November 5 2000: From Autumn:

"This is a monster of the week episode. It takes place in Muncie, Indiana, and has to do with robotics."
