A Little Voice
by anonymous

This is a story that happened to my papa before any of us kids were ever born. In fact, it happened when he was 19 years old before he ever met my momma. But he tells us this story frequently and I know it like the back of my hand.

My Dad was living in Mexico (Monterrey to be exact) when he was 19 years old. He was doing some service to some of the poorer families, and was coming home very late that night with one of his friends. Now this friend was one who was very moody. In fact, he tended to have a bad attitude a lot of the time. At this particular time, he was grumpy about being gone so long, and was tired. As they got in the car to drive home, a voice told my papa, "Put your seatbelt on!!!" It was a small voice, and he thought at first it was in his head and ignored it. Then, it said it again louder, "PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON, NOW!!!" He turned to his friend and asked, "Did you say something?" The friend replied that he didn"t. My dad immediately grabbed his seatbelt and secured it tightly. He then instructed his friend, who was slumped down in the passenger seat sleeping, to do the same. The friend looked annoyed and told him he was sleeping. My father insisted that his friend put his seatbelt on that minute, and reluctantly he did so.

Several seconds later, while crossing a narrow bridge, a horse which was crossing the bridge on the side, got spooked and ran out in front of the car. My father's car hit the horse. The impact threw my father's car several feet, but miraculously, though the horse was thrown from the bridge, my father's car teetered on the edge, and they remain unscathed.
