The Ghost of Raynham Hall

Below is a picture that is said to be the ghost of Raynham Hall in Norfolk, UK.  The photo is said to be the photo of the "Brown Lady" or Lady Townshend, whose maiden name was Dorothy Walpole.  There is a portrait of this woman hanging in the place, in which she wears a brown dress; thus this is where the name the "brown lady" came from. Legend has it that she has been seen throughout the centuries and was once even shot at by a Capt. Marryat, a novelist staying at Raynham. Even more interesting, this ghost was once seen by King George IV while staying at the hall in the early 19th Century.  He said she was standing beside his bed, had a pale face and untidy hair.  He also mentioned she wore a brown dress.   Then there is the really scary report of Colonel Loftus, who, in 1835, said he saw the ghost two nights in a row and both times said she had black holes where her eyes should have been.  Finally, in 1936 one of two photographers (a man named Capt. Provand, while the other, Indra Shira wrote an account of the photo) working in the hall took the famous staircase photo.  They actually SAW her, took her photo and then had the negative developed back in London with witnesses present.  Here is what Indra Shira wrote: "Captain Provand took one photograph while I flashed the light.  He  was focusing for another exposure; I was standing by his side just behind the camera with the flashlight pistol in my hand, looking directly up the staircase.  All at once I detected an ethereal veiled form coming slowly down the stairs.  Rather excitedly, I called out sharply: 'Quick, quick, there's something.' I pressed the trigger of the flashlight pistol.  After the flash and on closing the shutter, Captain Provand removed the focusing cloth from his head and turning to me said: 'What's all the excitement about?'
