How To Win (Applied Scouting) Hey Everybody!! This is the Cheese, from the House of Cheese. I am taking a few moments out of my time to discuss, of all things, winning. This course is for those of you with time to look at your opponent, who don't want to send 18 hours a day with simulated fights to see if you might win if your assumption of your opponent is close to what you might think it is.
Now, the first thing you might ask yourself is
"But I already know how to win!! I hit the other guy, and either he falls
down, or I win on points!". The intent of this course is more like advanced
scouting theory; you've decided your opponent is "X", now what?
First thing I do, when I create my fighter or
as I go over my next opponent, is how am I going to win. Again, seems obvious,
yes? Let's say, through your scouting technique, you have discovered that your
opponent is
A) 1 inch smaller, is slightly slower, and tends
to win endurance wars.
B) 2 inches taller, a fair bit faster, reasonable
at endurance.
C) same height, similar speed, has known KP when
you have none.
(for sake of argument, assume all fighters ever
mentioned are low cuts, VH build, status are equal)
The thing you need to look for when you fight
someone is to look for imbalances. Where am I stronger then my opponent, and
where am I weaker? What can I ignore, and what must I concentrate on? Let's
look at the imbalances of these fights:
(again, for sake of argument, assume your fighters
stats are X1 str, Y1 spd, Z1 agl, and your opponent's stats are X2 str, Y2 spd,
Z2 agl. The exact stats are not important to the exercise.)
A) What are the imbalances?
-he is good at the endurance war, so expect higher
str, agl in combo. Likely X1 + Z1 < X2 + Z2
-slightly slower. Can you get away with more
defense and still win on points? Likely Y1 > Y2
-1 inch smaller then you. That's something you can
use for leverage if you want to dance.
B)
- 2 inches taller. With the 1 spd and agl that
goes with 2 inches, he will have dancing advantage.
- Y1 < Y2
- possible X1 + Z1 /> (not greater then) X2 + Z2
C)
-height is the same, no imbalance there!! These
can be tricky!
-Y1 ~= Y2
-has KP, i.e. (unless something is really off) X1
+ Z1 > X2 + Z2
Now, we ask ourselves, what does this do for us?
Again, we go back to our examples...
A)
-good chance you'll lose the endurance war.
-since you have a small speed edge, dancing is a
strong option. With speed advantage, can you dance with 11 Def instead of 9?
-can you win on points with a 5B/7/8 (ring) FP
while your opponent goes 4B/8/8 (ring) (move numbers around as needed, exacts
not important)
idea: dance with good DEF, maybe 10-12.
B)
-2 inches taller, so likely as dance advantage.
-he's faster then you, but where did those points
come from? Is 4B/8/8 (inside) an option?
-he's not getting killed in endurance wars. is his
cond higher then average, or his agl? Maybe really high Def. Could have low
chin if he's compensating
idea: club him, maybe 4B/9/7 (inside)
C)
-same height, so no oddities there.
-has KP, so you have to keep your eyes open. Can
he flash? Is it defensive KP?
-you have the tools to win the endurance war, as
long as you're not lying on your back. How can you take advantage?
idea: try endurance war, maybe 4B/7/9 (ring) just
to be safe from KP
In conclusion, this is not meant to be an
exercise to give you the recipe for every fight. The idea is, after you have
scouted your opponent, to see where the imbalances are, and to see how best to
take advantage. Remember that, in most fights, AP's are equal. He can't be
great at everything, and if he's good at something, in theory he must be
weaker somewhere else. If you can find even 2 imbalances in your fight, and
your FP takes these into account, your results look to be favorable. The ideas
at the end are not meant to be a "this is the answer", but a guide for you to
make yourself on what might help you win the fight. Different ideas can and
will also work, or not work, as the case my be, but if you're on a path to
take advantage of a strength and exploit a weakness, you should do well.
