Maklumlah band projek aje.

HI-STORY

Viking Crown is a black metal project in the Darkthrone vein formed by Phil Anselmo of Pantera and Killjoy of Necrophagia. The final member is Phil's girlfriend Opal. Their debut album was also the first release on Killjoy's own Baphomet Records. Phil decided to put the project to sleep after the third release.

Those who contend that NECROPHAGIA is Killjoy and Philip Anselmo's most raw, primitive, and blood curdling project have yet to experience VIKING CROWN. Its latest creation, Banished Rhythmic Hate, is the musical equivalent of a runaway roller coaster car hurtling through a dark tunnel. Along with NECROPHAGIA and SOUTHERN ISOLATION keyboardist Opal, the deviant duo have re-imagined the Grand Guignol [the infamous 19th century French horror theater] as music, creating cathartic compositions that move between the raw, crude, and grotesque and the hauntingly beautiful and darkly atmospheric.

"VIKING CROWN was inspired by early, traditional black metal," explains Killjoy. "That is what the band has always aspired to be. Though most people seem to understand our music, there are still those who don't understand why it has to be so raw."

Most current Black Metal artists compose music that envisions a gothic 19th century England; the dark, eerie, and foggy streets where hookers provided unsuspecting prey for Jack the Ripper. VIKING CROWN's grotesque creations, however, visualizes the ripper's blade making its cut; his meticulously eviscerations and textbook disembowelments.

Interwoven among Banished Rhythmic Hates' 11 tracks are lavish, ambient creations by Southern Isolation keyboardist Opal Enthroned. "She plays some of the most depressing, horrific sounding things I have ever heard," says Killjoy. "Philip and I would just sit and listen back the recordings and marvel over how dark they are. It doesn't sound gothic. It doesn't sound pretty." Killjoy sums up VIKING CROWN's Banished Rhythmic as "very dark, melancholy, and extremely hideous." "I am proud to have been a part of this recording," he says. Later this year, the trio will compose and record the soundtrack to Bloodfeast II: Buffet of Blood, the long-awaited sequel to H.G. Lewis' classic gorefest, Bloodfeast

When Pantera singer Phil Anselmo (b. 30 June 1968, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA) decided to indulge his love of raw black metal, he renamed himself Anton Crowley (a reference to Satanists Anton LaVey and Aleister Crowley) and made the brutally raw, unsophisticated Unorthodox Steps Of Ritual in 1998. The second Viking Crown project featured Necrophagia's Killjoy (b. 4 November 1968, Memphis, Tennessee, USA; vocals) and Opal Enthroned (keyboards) functioned as an overspill for the wealth of material that Anselmo and Killjoy (who has not used his given name since he was a teenager) had recorded as a previous project, Eibon. The reaction of the world's black metal fans was cautious. After all, here was a much-respected extreme metal artist (Killjoy), in co-operation with a mainstream figure: Pantera's records chart regularly and are found in all high street stores. The verdict, however, was positive owing to the obviously genuine nature of the music, and later consolidated by the fact that Anselmo invited the black metal experimentalists Satyricon on tour with Pantera.

Info :
Viking Crown have released what seems to be their final effort titled "Banished Rhythmic Hate" on Season of Mist. Killjoy recently stated "I had a lot of fun recording with Viking Crown, although it seems to get written off as a joke band as of recently, I can only speak for myself,.. for me personally it was never meant to be mass accepted, it was a selfish band in which we recorded without regard for conventional methods, songwriting, or any goals except to make truly dark depressing, lo-fi black metal that we (the band) liked. It was just close friends getting fucked up and letting everything come from within. It was a very great experience and exorcism for me and I'll never regret any of the releases or the times we had during those recordings"

Review :
It's nearly that time of the year...when that grimmest of holidays comes around. And in the tradition of that day, Halloween, I found the perfect band. The band is Viking Crown, and their new CD called "Innocence From Hell" [Necropolis Records] is the creepiest Black Metal that I have ever heard.
Imagine dark, dense guitar riffs melding with unintelligible blackened growls, and then all of this highlighted by atmospheric instruments such as organs. It is utterly dark, but then this is contrasted with comical spoken word samples that are intros and outros. Some will never understand it, but I loved it. It's whacked and cracked, but that's half of its charm.
The best cuts include the abysmal title track, "Overlords Of Infinite Depression," "The Seventh Storm Of The Blood Demon," "The Gathering," and "The Burning Embers Of Mockery." Every track is abyssal black and creepy as hell.
In summary, this opus is the perfect soundtrack for Halloween...or just a really cool horror movie. This release is for the blackest of the Black. (Viking Crown features Killjoy and Anton Crowley [a.k.a. Phil Anselmo of Pantera]...if you care.)

Unorthodox Steps Of Ritual

Unorthodox Steps Of Ritual - Album 1999 Review :
"Unorthodox Steps of Ritual" is probably one of the most nastiest sounding albums I've ever heard. If symphonic black metal is your thing then you'd probably be better off listening to Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir because you won't find any of that here. There are some keyboard interludes here and there but the majority of this album is loud, primitive, raw black metal....good stuff to bang your head to!!!!!!
