The Banking Story 1 Printed 28/4 2000 RN

This happened in 1990/1991.

By this time it was popular for banks to create new forms of savings accounts.

The Swedish NORDBANKEN, one of the bigger bank companies, was no exception.

Nordbanken had recently created an account that made investments in European stock market companies. That sounded interesting and I decided to open an account and make an input of 10.000 just as a start, which was to be continued with monthly inputs. I was even going to get a 50 kr. bonus since I stumbled over a campaign.

The bank employee (called Patrik) was pleased and promised to send me a

confirmation of the account right away.

However I didn´t get that confirmation and 16 days later I call and ask for it. This time I get a reply letter saying that there is going to be a “new account opening” (whatever that might be).

Seven days later I call Patrik again and ask what is happening. He answers that the account is OK and the confirmation is on the way.

Another eight days later I call him up yet one time and ask why nothing is happening.

Now he answers that “Well, if the Nordbanken head office doesn´t sent one out I myself will write down a confirmation”.

Yet eleven days later I call the bank office. The person handling the incoming phone calls does not know of the existance of any Patrik. I call the head office and gets transferred to a nice lady called Veronica. She takes my call and gets in contact with the local office.

The bank employee called Patrik has quit the job. (When asking it seemed that one week later nobody was aware of him ever working there). Another lady by the name of Birgit promises to arrange the account. The confirmation will be sent to me within a week.

Nine days later. I call Birgit at the Nordbanken office. She is not really aware of this case. She wants to call me back.

A guy called Lars calls back that same day. He is going to send me a fax and the

account confirmation will be sent to me within two weeks.

Another eighteen days later the account confirmation arrives.

But that account was deleted shortly after that.
