The Power of One - Chapter 2

Luke’s Revelation

Days passed and the vampire attacks became more frequent. They would happen during the day and night, mostly during the day to show off their invulnerability to the sunlight. Luke still refused to tell them why they were so strong and why the sunlight didn’t vanquish them like it was supposed to. It was about two to three weeks after the day Michael found out about the poison. He ignored them best he could but the dreams were still there. He decided he had to talk to Luke. Maybe he had some answers. Only problem was Luke started avoiding him.

It was late in the morning, around 11:30 AM. Alex was at work now that school was over and Jackie was off looking for a job of her own. Being by himself in the manor, Michael saw this as his chance to be able to talk to Luke.

Michael: “Luke…Luke I need to talk to you.” – He waited there and said nothing more. About a minute later, the clutter of blue orbs came into the room. – “It’s important.” – He was looking out the window, still in deep thought. Everyday, he sat at that window in his room and just…looked. –

Luke: “Okay…what do you need to talk about?” – After he orbed in, he sat down on Mike’s bed. –

Michael: “A dream. A dream I’ve been having for about two weeks now. Ever since I was…poisoned.” – He was still looking out the window. He spoke with almost no feeling. He felt empty knowing that one day he would turn to The Source’s side. –

Luke: “What’s the dream about?”

Michael: “It’s the same thing all the time. I guess you can say it’s like a premonition…”

Luke: “A premonition? You don’t have that power. That’s…” – He didn’t get to finish. Michael cut him off. –

Michael: “I said it was like a premonition.” – There was a cold sense to the way he said it. Michael noticed it, but kept looking out the window avoiding Luke’s face. He felt as if he lost Luke somehow. – “Sorry.” – He paused but then continued. – “In the dream, I’m standing in front of Alex. A female is standing next to me but I can’t make out whom it is. I just know that she has long hair. Sometimes I think it could be one of the other Charmed Ones. Piper.”

Luke: “How do you know Piper has long hair?”

Michael: “I asked Jackie what they looked like in her premonition. The one who looked the oldest had the longest hair, she told me. Then you said the oldest sister is called Piper. I just put those things together. Anyway, I’m in front of Alex and we’re arguing. Actually I’m talking and he’s yelling at me. My powers are expanded in the dream. I don’t say anything but things just start to orb at him. He orbs out of the way and starts to say something. Before he could finish, five people appear around him. He yells something at them and they get out of the way. Then I throw something at him; a potion bottle. It hits him but I wake up before anything else happens.” – He turns from the window to look at Luke. – “Luke, I’m going to betray them. I might actually be the cause of the death of the Charmed Ones. I’m gonna be the cause of evil taking over.” – He looks out the window again. – Luke didn’t know what to say. There wasn’t anything he could tell him that would make it all better, that would make it all go away.

Michael: “Are you sure there isn’t anyway to fight this?”

Luke: “I’m sorry Michael. I’m so sorry.” – Luke noticed a tear on Michael’s face. – “You have to tell them, Mike. You have to. They can help you find a way to fight it. And even if they can’t at least they’ll know.”

Michael: “I’ll lose them Luke. Just how I lost you.” – He continued to look out the window and saw Jackie’s car pulling up to the house. He was afraid to hear what Luke would say. –

Luke: “I’m sorry for avoiding you. I just feel I failed you in some way, feel like I failed your father. But you haven’t lost me Mike and you won’t lose your brother and sister either. They’re worried and kinda hate me for not telling them anything.” – Luke felt the call of one of his other charges. – “I have to go, someone’s summoning me. Tell them Mike. You can’t keep it locked up inside you. If you do, you’ll go crazy. Promise me, you’ll tell them.”

Michael: “Yeah. Yeah, I promise.”

Luke: “Good.” – He started orbing away when Mike called him back. –

Michael: “Luke…” – He came back from his orbed form and stood there. – “Thanks.” – Luke nodded then orbed away to his other charge. –

---------------------

Alex: “Luke…Where the hell are you?” – He was sitting on the floor against the wall with deep cuts across his chest and neck. He tried once more to use the power to freeze but it didn’t seem to affect them. –

Vampire: “Leave him. He causes you no harm.” – The vampire stands in between Alex and the other vampire. But these vampires were different from the rest. They talked as if from old times, somewhere in the eighteenth century. They were utterly white and smooth as if they were sculpted from bleached bone. The one that seemed to be protecting Alex looked as if he were in his mid 20 and the other didn’t look much older. –

Vampire 2: “Obviously you haven’t heard a word of Armand’s prophets. He’s the one. He’s a threat to all of us.” – His hair was long and dark. It ran down below his shoulders and he spoke with a deep southern accent. – “Get out of the way, Louis.”

The vampire walked towards the other one known as Louis. He pushed him out of the way, throwing him to the wall with the strength of the vampires. He looked down at him and brought his hand up to the side of his face causing Alex to rise against his will.

Louis: “Leave him Lestat.”

Lestat: “The blood of a Charmed One.” – He smiled. – “Should I make you or keep the blood to myself?”

Lestat lowered his head and prepared to bite Alex. Alex shivered with fear when he felt fangs pressing against his neck. He closed his eyes and hoped for a miracle, the pressure on his neck growing. But as quick as he felt them, he didn’t. Lestat became distracted as Luke orbed into the room.

Luke: “Old-World vampire. Damn it.”

He swung at Lestat across the face and his telepathic grip on Alex was lost. He grabbed him and orbed them from where they were back to the manor.

-----------------

Jackie walked into Michael’s room after driving back from her supposed job search. When she came in, Michael turned from the window to look at her and saw her neck scratched and bitten into.

Mike: “What happened?”

Jackie: “Vampire attack. One bit me but didn’t get much. I managed to get away from them pretty fast. Without an active power I didn’t have much I could do. And I don’t exactly carry around a stake.”

Mike: “We got to take care of that. It’ll get infected if you don’t.” – He sighed. – “Alex told you to take his crucifix. Should have listened.”

She went to the bathroom and did best she can to clean the cut up.

Jackie: “Maybe we should call…”

At that moment Luke and Alex orbed into the room. Alex had cuts all over him done by the vampire that attacked him.

Mike: “Luke.” – He went over to help Alex onto the bed. – “What happened to you?”

Luke held his hands over Alex to heal him.

Alex: “Vampire’s again, although these two were different from the rest.” – Luke finished there and went over to Jackie. –

Luke: “You were bitten.” – He examined it. – “You’ll be fine. Doesn’t look like he had you long enough for any damage.” – He healed her then went over to sit on a chair in where he could talk to them all. – “They were Old-World vampires; demons that existed before The Source. The only way to vanquish them is sunlight and they are immune to the power of witches. Now that the…” – He stopped himself. – “Now that sunlight has no power over vampires, they are practically invulnerable.”

Mike: “So how do we stop them?”

Luke: “Well the normal vampires will be vanquished by a stake through the heart, holy water any of the old stuff. The old vampires, you’ll have to find a way to get them into fire. Burning them is the only vanquish left.”

Jackie: “But won’t they just keep coming? Isn’t there a way to stop them all?”

Luke: “By vanquishing the Vampire Queen, you destroy all the vampires post The Source’s appearance under her control. But the other ones…”

He stopped talking.

Alex: “What? But the other ones what?” – Luke didn’t say anything. – “Luke I’m tired of you keeping things from us. Vampires are evil. No matter what, we have to vanquish them. How do we stop the other vampires?”

No matter what, we have to vanquish them… because they are evil. Will he end saying that to Jackie about me?

Luke: “You can’t.”

Jackie: “What do you mean we can’t? Are our powers not strong enough?”

Luke: “No. You can’t. Witches can’t. The only ones who could vanquish demons that old and that powerful…” – He stopped, thinking of the consequences this will arise. He realized that Michael was going through something like this. So he took his own advice and told them. – “The only ones who could defeat them are mages.”
