The Threat of The Secret - Chapter 3

Andras Strikes

After Jackie read the inscription of Andras, the spirit of rage, from the Book Of Shadows Michael went over to Luke. He thought it would be impossible for them to vanquish a spirit. “How do we vanquish a spirit of rage?” He looked over at Alex. “A spirit for that matter?”

Alex was sitting and had his head in his hands. The inscription from the book about this spirit worried him. The words repeated in his mind. Uses anger as a portal. After Michael’s statement he picked up his head from thought and said, “Yeah, aren’t they already dead?”

“So are ghosts, but there are ways to vanquish them. Jackie, did you find a vanquishing spell or potion on that page?” She looked over the inscription and found nothing. She turned the page but found only a picture of another demon. She touched the page and had another vision, this one of three female witches. A thought came to her. They were turned. She didn’t exactly know what that meant so she let it go. “Are you all right?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

“Is there a vanquish?”

“No, there’s no vanquish. Can’t we just write one like the last time?”

“You’ll have to but a spell won’t be strong enough to vanquish him. You’ll have to use a potion as well.” Michael went over to the book and opened to the first couple of pages. “Is there anything on here about creating potions?”

“There might be but I doubt it.”

At about the sixth page, he found a picture of another demon and saw that there was a vanquishing spell and potion inscription at the bottom. “So, can’t we use a potion and vanquish of another demon?”

“You might be able to pull it off but you’ll need some of his blood. And you’ll have to reword the spell.” Jackie opened the book and looked for a demon who had a vanquish and potion written in it. Looking through the book, she realized that there are many demons they would come across. “And we can use any?”

“No. It can only be a demon that won’t rise again, a demon who The Source cannot revive. There might not be one in there.” Luke hoped with all his hope that that demon would not be in there. There was only one and if the elders kept it in the book, he’ll have explaining to do; explaining he wasn’t allowed to do.

Jackie thought for a second. “But if there is, I can use the effects of the smart spell to find it, right?”

“It’s not always successful, especially since such a demon might not exist.” Alex walked over to the book and put his hand on the book’s cover. He needed this demon destroyed. If he were to succeed at what the book says he does, one of them would be put into danger because of, well…himself. “If there isn’t, we’ll have to find another way of killing it.” He picked it up and brought it over to Jackie who was sitting on a couch at this point. Unlike Luke, Alex was hoping, depending on such a demon existing. Jackie took the book from Alex’s hands and put it on her laps. “Do it. Ask the book.”

She placed her hands over the book and asked it in spell form to find a demon that cannot be brought back. The triquetra glowed and the book began its flipping of pages for a third time. After about a minute, the book stopped on a page of a red demon with black markings on his face. She put her hands down and said, “Belthazor, The Demonic Soldier of Fortune.”

Luke froze at the name because that was the one demon he knew it could be. Alex looked determined. Determined to find and vanquish Andras before he could use his powers to destroy them.

Jackie continued reading.

“Belthazor The Demonic Soldier of Fortune
Both powerful and dangerous, he has destroyed countless witches, innocents and demons. As sinister as he is intelligent, he is not to be trusted. Belthazor's known abilities include throwing energy bolts and shimmering from place to place, but his powers are probably not limited to these capabilities. Because there is no known way to defeat him, Belthazor should be avoided at all costs.”

“What?” Alex looked over at Michael and they shared a look of confusion. This couldn’t be the demon they were looking for if there was no way of killing it. “But you asked the book for an already vanquished demon.”

Jackie looked at the bottom inscription in that page. “He is. Despite what the book says, there’s a vanquishing spell and potion right here. Why does it say there’s no known way to defeat him, Luke?”

Luke let out a sigh, a long sigh. “Whenever a demon is vanquished, the vanquishing spells, and potions in some cases, appear there. The ones who had the Book Of Shadows before you vanquished it.” His mind took him back to a one of his friends that he had in the past.

Thinking that Andrea and her mother had the book before them, Michael asks, “So mom and grams killed Belthazor?”

“No. The Book Of Shadows was last used four months ago by other witches. That’s the reason you had to summon the book back from the elders. It returned to them after the witches…disappeared.”

Jackie’s mind went back to the vision she had not to long ago of the three female witches.

“Did they die?”

“No. But uh… they were…”

Jackie closed the book and put it back on the bookstand and went to stand next to Luke. She needed to know what he was trying to hide. She placed her hand on his forehead to see if her power of clairvoyant premonitions would also work as a power to read minds. She closed her eyes and began to concentrate. Something started to come but quickly vanished. After a few seconds of concentrating on a vision from Luke’s memory, Alex went over to her and said, “If he doesn’t want to say, it isn’t fair for you to force him.” She opened her eyes and took her hand from Luke’s forehead. She had a suspicious look on her face, almost as if she knew that Luke was keeping something from them that could put them in danger.

Alex went over to the corner of the attic where he had a map of Los Angeles and a crystal tied to a string. He walked over to where the Book of Shadows was and sat down next to it. He turned to a page marked ‘Scrying For Something Lost’.

Michael went over to Alex and sat next to him.

“Don’t sit down, Michael.”

“Why not?”

Alex turned to the book-marked page with the demon known as Belthazor. He grabbed a piece of paper and pen and copied the spell and potion ingredients down on a piece of paper. He handed them to him and said, “I don’t know where but see if you can find these ingredients. The cockleshells and pigs feet you can find in a nearby deli or place like that and my guess is that you can find the mandrake root and other stuff in the herbs market down in Chinatown.”

Jackie took her face away from Luke as she was asking him a silent question the entire time. She went over to Michael and took the paper from him. “I’ll go. I can get the stuff quicker with my car.” She ripped the piece of paper into two keeping the half with the ingredients for herself. “You stay here and reword this.” She handed him the other half. Jackie walked downstairs from the attic to the living room. She felt something strange but again ignored it as she thought it was nothing and went to leave the house. She closed the door to the manor, got in her car, and drove off.

---
Outside the door of the manor, in his cloaked form, Andras waited for the sister charmed one until she left the manor. Perfect. She didn’t see me. After he sees her getting in her car and driving off, he becomes visible. “Time to follow some orders.” He laughs an evil laugh and blinks following Jackie’s car to wherever it is she leads him.
---

“You find him yet?” Michael sat on the living room couch rewording the spell once used to defeat Belthazor. Luke sat next to him and Alex sat on the floor with the map and crystal in front of him on a coffee table.

“No. Really haven’t started scrying yet.”

“What are you waiting for?”

“Nothing, just uh… just had a bad feeling.” He opened the map and picked up the string and held it so that the crystal hovered just above the outlines of the city. He looked at the book, which was opened next to him, and casted the spell to scry for something lost.

“Over a map
A crystal should flow,
As I name my desire
Its location you’ll show”

The crystal suspended itself over the map and stayed perfectly still. “Andras, The Spirit of Rage.” At his words the crystal started to rotate. Alex moved his hand so that the crystal would go over every part of the city.

“All right. I think I got it worded correctly for it to work.”

The crystal stopped moving and the string straightened itself. The string and crystal made a small arrow that pointed to a road near Chinatown. When Alex saw this, the bad feeling came over him again.

---
“How many lights are there in this city?!” Jackie stopped at the tenth stoplight in the rather large part of Los Angeles known as Chinatown. The light changed to green and Jackie put her car into gear.

Andras appeared not to far from there and saw the opportunity to get part of his orders complete. As his victims car was starting to move at the change of the light, he charged a red energy ball and threw it at the stoplight. Jackie’s car went into the intersection of the street and two cars hit her from both sides.
---

Michael looked over at Alex and Alex looked at Luke. Luke tried to get a reading of Jackie sensing for her essence and abilities. After trying a couple of times and getting a weak signal, he looked at Alex with a concerned look. Michael noticed the exchange. “What? What’s going on?”

“Jackie.”
