The Threat of The Secret - Chapter 4

Andras Strikes

An Anger Realized

“Yes I’d like to report an accident…” The woman turns around to look for a street name. “We’re on Main Street and 37th…car accident and it appears the driver is dead… you’re welcome.” She hung up the phone and walked off. “Fight for your life for the triangle of mages is the only chance.” When she reached a secluded area, she traced a rune into the air and said something in Latin…probably…and a clutter of blue orbs formed a door. She stepped through them then the door vanished.

Jackie lied there, unconscious struggling to stay alive. They came out of nowhere. Two cars rammed her from both sides and she banged her head against the steering wheel. The ambulance arrived and immediately went into action. The door was jammed so they broke it off and pulled her out from her seat. She was bleeding terribly from her forehead and seemed to have a broken rib in the side the car hit her.

“I’ve got a pulse but it’s low. We’ll have to rush her if there’s an hope of keeping her alive.” They lifted her and the stretcher into the back of the ambulance. They put an oxygen mask over her face and did what they can to stabilize her on the way to the hospital.

Time for step two… Andras walked off as he saw that even though she wasn’t dead, he had completed his task.

“Jackie? What’s wrong with her?” Michael got up and went over to where Alex sat scrying over the map. “Where is she?” He took the crystal from Alex’s hand and tried scrying for her. “Knife.” The knife appeared in his hands and he cut himself dripping the blood on the dagger that held the string and crystal.

“Michael, what are you doing?”

“Looking for Jackie.” He closed his eyes and focused but then realized that it wasn’t going to be enough. “Luke why the hell isn’t this working?”

“Because you’re letting your emotions take the better of you. Focus what you are feeling into your magic.” Michael took a deep breath and forced his frustration away in a way making him stronger. After a minute or so he realized it still wouldn’t be enough. After sensing for her, Luke said, “Her life force is weak. The magic behind the crystal isn’t strong enough to find it.”

“You mean my magic… we’ll see.” He stopped for a few moments then continued moving the crystal around the map.

“Over a map
A crystal shall flow
As I name my desire
It’s location you’ll show
Blood to blood, I scry for thee
Blood to blood, now answer me”

The crystal suspended itself like before and waited for a name. “Jacqueline Rowe.” The crystal began its rotating and stopped at the hospital. “The hospital?”

The phone rang. Alex reached over and grabbed it. “Hello… yes this is he… yeah she’s my sister… is she okay… yeah alright we’re on our way, thank you.” He hanged up the phone. “You were right, Jackie’s at the hospital. She was in a car accident.”

“What? Is she alright?”

“The doctor said she’s in bad shape but it’s likely that she’ll pull through. Do we orb there, Luke?” Michael looked at Alex. “Of course we orb there, how else would we get there.”

“It’s a public place. Someone could see us.”

“We could orb into the alley behind the hospital or to the roof where no one will be around, right Luke?”

“Yeah. Yeah I guess we can. Just hope no one will be around.” Luke grabbed both their shoulders and they orbed to the hospital.

---

At the hospital:

Alex, Michael and Luke walked through the corridor that led to the hallway Jackie’s room was in. They were lost so they went to the receptionist. She pointed them to the correct room but they were told that they couldn’t stay for long and that she might be sleeping.

They open the door to Jackie’s room and as they open it, they didn’t notice the blue light shimmer away. They go inside to see Jackie still sleeping. Next to the bed were two empty chairs where Michael and Luke sat at. Alex walked over to the other side of the bed and stood. This was the first time he failed in being there for one of them when they needed him the most. Michael looks at his brother’s face and sees a tear come from nowhere and roll down the side of his face.

“You can’t always be there, Alex. Things happen.”

“Yeah. Yeah I guess. It’s just that I lost so many people I don’t think I could bare losing one of you. That’s why I promised to watch over you guys. I wanted to make sure that I didn’t lose you guys to death.” He brought his hands to the back of his neck and took of his crucifix that he wore and put it on Jackie’s pillow next to her.

“Well you haven’t. You said the doctor said she’d be fine, right? It just takes time.”

Luke looked up and sighed. “I have to go. The elders are summoning me. Call me if anything happens alright?”

“Yeah sure.” With that he orbed. The light that he gave of shined on Jackie’s face and woke her up. The lights in the room were dim but they still seemed to bother her. She squinted and tried to make out who was in the room. When she finally noticed who it was she said, “Hey.”

Michael went over to the opposite side of the bed Alex stood at. “How are you feeling?”

“Like crap. Man, does my head hurt.” She tried to move but when she did she felt a pain on her side. “Ouch.”

“Broken rib. You’re lucky they found you when they did. Doc said it might have been to late.” He sat down on the chair again this time pulling it closer to the bed.

“But what happened? How did I get here?”

Alex went to sit next Mike. “You were in a car accident. Two cars have hit you from the side. One broke your rib and caused you to bang your head against the steering wheel. You have stitched on your forehead.” She felt for the stitches but found a sort of tape like substance covering them. “You should be more careful when you’re driving.”

“But I was. The lights were in my favor but the cars from the other end drove anyway. It’s not my fault, the lights were either broken or they wanted to do that… I don’t know.”

Michael looked up. “That’s ridiculous why would someone want to kill you? I mean if it were a demon that’d be different but why would a person…” Then it came back. The memory of what happened one week ago came back. No, that can’t be it. Luke erased their memories. No, that couldn’t be it. But that was all Michael thought about the entire time.

A few hours later, they were told to leave. Jackie wasn’t to come home until tomorrow so they left her there.

“Sure you don’t want us to stay?”

“No Alex. Go home. I’ll be fine.” She handed the crucifix back to him. When he had it he went back and out it next to her on her pillow again. “You keep it. It’ll keep you safe.”

They arrived back at the manor in a cab since they didn’t have Luke to orb them their. It was pretty late. Around twelve thirty in the morning. “You going home or you staying here tonight?”

“You mind?”

“No. You can stay if you want. Actually that’s something I wanted to talk to you guys about… I was thinking that you and Jackie should move in.” He was lost in thought. Michael couldn’t help but think that he was the cause of Jackie’s problem. “Michael… Mike…What are you thinking about?”

---

Andras is looking into the manor through the window and sees Michael lost in thought. “Good it worked. He thinks he’s responsible.” He closes his eyes and begins reading Alex and sees the hidden anger he has towards Michael inside him. “Perfect. Time for some damage.” Andras turns into a ball of energy and hurls himself at Alex possessing him.

Michael looks at Alex to see a change in him but he can’t place it. “Hey, you alright?” No response. “Alex are you okay?” Alex looks up at him with anger in his face and eyes that are glowing red. “What the…”

“It’s your fault.”

“What?”

“She’s in there because of you. Because of your stupid immature actions.”

“What are you talking about?”

Having access to all his memories, “Memory dust isn’t always successful. You know that? Sometimes it fails or wears off. Jackie’s in the hospital because of your showing off.”

“That’s not true. They never saw her.”

“You don’t care about anybody but yourself. I should’ve never saved you from that warlock. I should have left you there to die.”

“Alex?”

“We’d be better off without you. There’s no way we’ll kill the Source and his witches with a good-for-nothing like you.”

“What?”

“You turned out just like your father, didn’t you? A good-for-nothing.”

“SHUT UP.” He swung his hand over sent Alex flying again. When he hit the wall, he got up and picked up a dagger that fell to the ground and through it at him. Confused and angry he did what he was accustomed to do. Michael called the dagger and redirected it to Alex. He froze it and grabbed it from the blade end and through it back faster than before charged with one of Andras’ energy balls. It passed Michael cutting his shoulder pretty deeply, the cut glowing for a second. Alex smiled then fell to the floor. Andras came out of him.

“It’s done. The power of three is broken.” He laughed his evil chuckle and disappeared.

Alex got up and looked at Michael remembering everything he said and what he did under Andras’ influence. It bothered him because was all of that something he truly felt or something that Andras made him say. Alex wasn’t even angry about that anymore… at least he didn’t think he was. And even if he were, he would never say something like that.

To ashamed to look at him, Alex looked at the floor and said, “I’m sorry, Mike.” He got up from the floor exhausted and went over to him to help him get up.

“It wasn’t you… forget about it.” What Alex had said did hurt but it wasn’t from Alex, it was from Andras… at least that’s what he hoped. “Did you hear what he said?”

His head was hurting and he didn’t get his senses back till a little while ago and his mind didn’t register everything Andras had said right away.

“He said the power of three was broken.” They went to the attic to see the Book of Shadows. The triquetra was broken up into three separate rings.
