Touch of Vision

Chapter Six

Justin closes the door of the hotel room after signing for the breakfast just as the news comes on:

Sean Combs and Sean Carter, bodyguards in tow, are being escorted from a federal courthouse and into vehicles, "In music news today Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Sean "Jay Z" Carter were indicted today of kidnapping and extortion.  All attempts to contact either party have gone unanswered."

The door opens again as Lance walks in with Agents Sanchez and Jackson along with a couple of new people.  "Hey Jayce?"

"Hmm." JC responds from his spot on the bed.

"We need to get a statement from you sir," one of the newcomers states.

"For what?  I've already given my statement three times."

"Mr. Chasez," Agent Sanchez states.  "You'll probably have to give it several more times before this is all over."

JC sighs, looks down at his hands, "Where do you want me to begin?"

*~*~*

The five young men walk into the building, glancing around as they go.

"Why exactly do we have to be here?" Chris asks.

"She wants to speak to all of you," Agent Jackson replies.  "Although JC is the one with the 'gift' as she calls it, she wants to talk to all of you for a few minutes.  She didn't specify as to why, just that she did."

Chris shakes his head but continues to follow the others as they make their way through the building and down a short hallway.

The five men and agent enter the room to find a slightly grey-haired woman sitting behind an expansive wooden desk.  She looks up as the door quietly closes, "Welcome.  I'm Doctor Provichek, please have a seat."   She gestures towards a couch and chair, "Thank you Agent Jackson, you can go now.  I'd like to talk to the boys alone."

Agent Jackson looks at the five men with a raise eyebrow, silently asking if they were ok with the request, when they all nod she leaves the room.

"Ok, now that she's gone," the lady moves from the desk to sit in the chair (Justin, Joey, Chris and Lance had all set on the couch and JC was standing at a window behind the couch looking out over the city).  "I've no idea who's who so why don't you all tell me?"

After a long silence Joey looks around, "Ok, well I guess I'll start then.  I'm Joey Fatone."

"Lance Bass."

"Chris Kirkpatrick."

"Justin," short pause.  "Timberlake." He adds almost as an afterthought.  He looks towards JC and smiles, "And that, that's JC Chasez."

"Hmmm, what's that J?" JC states as he comes out of his daze.

"She wanted to know our names Jayce.  Why don't you come sit down?"

JC glances at the group snugly seated on the couch then at the elderly lady, "Ummm…no…don't think so J.  Probably not a great idea right now."

Lance stands and pulls one of the chairs that had been sitting in front of the desk over to the area they were now occupying, "Well, you can't stand for the next three hours JC.  Try this one."

JC looks at it skeptically, takes a deep breath and slowly sits in the chair.  He immediately closes his eyes and freezes:

"He just came out of nowhere and grabbed me.  He pulled me down this alley and then…then he…God I was so scared.  What was I supposed to do?  I did what he said and then he left.

JC jumped from the seat and went back over to the window, "I think I'll stand thanks."

The doctor looks from the four on the couch to the young man standing at the window, "Why don't you tell us what you saw Mr. Chasez?"

JC continues to stare out the window for a few seconds then he turns to the doctor, "You have a clause about patient confidentiality right?"

"Yes? Why?"

"Well, I'm sure the young lady that was in here an hour ago would appreciate it if I did not tell you what I just saw."  He frowns at the doctor, shakes his head and turns back towards the window.

Taken aback, the doctor sits there for a few minutes watching JC.

Chris looks around then stands and approaches JC, "Jayce.  Why don't you come, sit next to us?  I'll sit over there (he indicates the extra chair).  You already know our secrets anyway man."  He pats JC on the shoulder lightly.  JC closes his eyes for a brief second before Chris drags him to the seat not giving him a chance to focus in on the vision.  "Man, cut it out.  I told you, you already know everything about me. Now sit down and relax a bit."

"Easy for you to say," JC mumbles but sits between Justin and Lance on the couch.  Both younger boys cross their legs so that they aren't touching him but glance in his direction.  JC looks up at the doctor, takes a deep breath, "Umm…sorry about that.  It's just…sometimes they're a little…"

"It's ok.  She's been through a terrible ordeal and if what I've heard about your vision is true…well, I can't blame you for not wanting to go into detail."  She looks at the other young men, "I guess I should probably explain why I wanted you all here?"

Four nods.

"Well, the agents that I spoke with, Jackson and Sanchez, both told me that he, JC, insisted that you all be included when ever he helped with a case so…I just…well, I figured he'd feel more comfortable, at least for the first few sessions, if you all were here as well.  It might also help you to understand what he's going through."

"That's great but why am I here?" JC questions, "I've done nothing wrong, have I?"

"No Mr. Chasez, you've done nothing wrong.  You're here because of the little girl.  She's been having some…"

"Mr. JC! Mr. JC!" A small yellow blur yells as it streaks for JC.

As the blur lands in his lap he wraps his arms around her and smiles, "Hey Sweetie.  What are you doing here?"

"Doc Max told daddy to bring me here."

"The doctor said she might get better, past this or whatever, if she kept in contact with you since…since you were 'there' with her." Eminem states as he strolls into the room.

JC whispers into the little girl's curls, "You didn't tell him?"

"I told him.  I did, really.  I told him and the doctor but…" tears begin to glisten in the small blue eyes.

"But they didn't believe you," JC finishes, turning accusing eyes towards Eminem.

"No we didn't and I still don't.  I don't know how you found her.  Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad that you did, but I'm not gonna lie and say I believe something when I don't."

"Now's a fine time to pick to get all moral.  What about all the shit you said about…"

"Lance, stop.  This is not the time or place for that," JC cuts in.  He stands, picking Hailey up in the process.  "Look, we can't prove it so I don't know what good this is going to do you or your daughter.  If you aren't willing to believe her or me, then I think we're pretty much done here."

Dr. Provichek stands, "Look, Mr. Chasez and Mr. Mathers, I may have a way to prove that what you two are saying is true.  If you're all willing to, that is."

*~*~*~*

JC is laying in a room, alone, with a camera trained in on his face.  Hailey is in another room, Marshall in a chair next to the bed with a camera trained in on her as well.  In a third room are three television monitors, one with a screen that displays JC, one with Hailey and one with a split screen showing both rooms. It also contains the doctor, Justin, Chris, Joey, Lance as well as Agents Sanchez and Jackson.

"How is this going to prove anything to him if he stays with her?" Joey asks.

"He's just making sure she's safe.  I can't say I blame him after what they went through." Lance replies.

"And whatever he misses he can always just hit rewind and watch it again.  We are recording it you know." Dr. Provichek finishes.

"Shhh…shows starting," Justin cuts in, eyes glued to the monitor with JC on it.

JC closes his eyes and relaxes.  He is quickly transported to another room where Eminem is sitting to his right and Hailey is laying on the bed.

"He's here daddy!  I can feel him!" Hailey squeels.

"He is?  Where?" Marshall quickly glances around the room.  "I don't see…"

"He's not…it's not like that daddy."  She sighs, "I don't think this is gonna work Mr. JC."

JC smiles in his room, "Just relax sweetie.  When he sees the tapes, then he'll know we're not messing with him.  Why don't you tell me what you've been doing since the last time we visited."

"K, but then you have to sing to me.  You haven't since…since you found me."

"Fair enough." JC chuckles softly to himself.

"Well, daddy and I went shopping.  He bought me a bunch of dresses and I found this teddy bear.  It was just like the one that Jasper gave me.  You remember?"

"Yep, I remember it."

"Daddy didn't understand why I had to have that one.  He didn't want to buy it for me, but I couldn't put it back.  I couldn't.  You understand, don't you Mr. JC, please tell me you understand why I couldn't put it back."

"Yes, sweetie, I understand."

"Why didn't Jasper ever come back?  I liked him, he was nice to me." Hailey swiped at the tears that had started flowing.

"I don't know sweetie.  Shhhh now and I'll sing you a song now, ok?" JC quickly moved to her side, sitting on the bed next to her, wishing for all the world that he could just hold her.

Hailey nods and snifles, "Yes, please."

JC starts singing solftly:

If I was down

Would your arms lift me up to higher ground?

With just the strength of your love

If I was lost

Would I find something in your eyes to lead me home

And If it all went wrong

Would you be there to hold?

It's easy to be there through the good times

But when the times get hard

Would you stay or walk away?

As JC finishes the song Hailey wipes at the tears with the tissue that Eminem had given her and smiles, "That was pretty.  I really liked that song.  Did you write that one?"

"No but we might be putting it on one of our albums someday."

"Cool.  Now what do we do?"

The doctor walks into the room that JC is laying in, "Mr. Chasez?  I think that's enough for today."

JC sits up and smiles at the doctor, "Guess he'll be watching the tapes huh?"

"How do you…"

A mischievous grin spreads across his face, "How do I know?" He raises an eyebrow, "Do I really need to answer that?  Come on now doc."

"No you don't need to answer it.  It's just a natural question that slipped before I could catch it."  She pats him on the shoulder and he freezes.

The doctor walks outside into the darkness and heads directly for her car.  Suddenly she's grabbed from behind, "Scream and I'll break your neck old lady.  I just want your keys and purse, now you be a good old bat and I won't have to harm you ok?"

JC starts slightly and looks at the doctor, "What time do you usually leave here?"

The doctor looks at him for a second, puzzled, "Why?  What did you see?"

"Nothing, just wanted to know.  You're the first person that's believed me without looking at me like I'm completely crazy, other than the guys.  Just thought it would be nice to go have a cup of coffee or something." JC shrugs, "I'd understand if you said no though."  He walks back to the doctor's office.

"It's not that Mr. Chasez.  I'm very interested in spending more time with you and discovering what is happening with you but…well…it just wouldn't be professional if I did it on a personal level."

JC smiles at her, "That's ok doc.  I told you, I understand.  You don't have to explain yourself.  It's not like I was gonna try to hit on you or anything."

"Ok, so now what?" Marshall questions as he walks into the room.

"Well," the doctor begins.

"I suggest you watch the tapes, then if you have any questions…"

"Christopher!" JC reprimands.

"What?"  Chris glares at JC then at Eminem.  "He's done nothing but insult us and particularly you and all you do is defend him.  Why?"

"I'm not defending Eminem, guys.  I'm defending Hailey's father.  I know he loves her and is just trying to protect her in the only way he knows how.  They've been through a lot and most of that they've had to deal with on their own.  They haven't had a support team like you guys to help them deal with this shit."

Marshall glares at JC, unsure of what to make of him.

"Gentlemen, please."  She silently glances to the small girl sitting in front of her desk.

JC glances at the doctor, "Sorry ma'am."

Marshall just walks over to Hailey, "You ok baby?"

"Mmmhmm, why you and Mr. JC fighting?" she sniffles.

"We're not fighting baby." He looks up to meet JC's concerned gaze, "Are we?"

"Nope.  We're just trying to figure out how to get a smile on your pretty little face." JC smiles as he kneels in front of her.

She breaks into a bright smile and squeals, "Disney?"

Marshall shakes his head and looks at the ground, "I'm sorry sweetheart but I told you before that we can't stay.  Not this time."

JC pats her leg, "Next time you come down here."  He looks up at Marshall, "I promise we'll take you to Disney ok?"

"Promise?"

"I promise." JC smiles.  "Now, unfortunately we, the guys and I, have to get going.  You be good for your daddy ok?"

"Ok." Hailey wraps her arms around his neck, "Love you Mr. JC."

Surprised by her words, JC whispers back, "Love you too sweetie."

*~*~*~*

Doctor Provichek walks out of her office and heads down the hallway towards the front door and spots JC sitting in the waiting room.  "Mr. Chasez?  What are you doing here?"

JC walks up to her and quietly states, "Thought you might like some company walking to your car."

"Um…actually…I'd rather not, thanks though."  She hurries out of the building towards her car.

"Damn it," JC growls and decides to keep back a bit to see if his vision was right or not, but not too far back that if she needs help he'd be close enough.

Sure enough, just as she reaches her car, a man steps out of the bushes close by and approaches her grabbing her from behind. "Scream and I'll break your neck old lady.  I just want your keys and purse, now you be a good old bat and I won't have to harm you ok?"

"What…who…"

"Shut up old woman."

"Excuse me, doc but…" JC reaches out and grabs the man's arm just as the two agents pull up.  "I don't think you'll be hurting her or any other…" He freezes as a vision hits him:

He's sitting in a clump of bushes, quietly waiting and watching the parked car in front of him.

JC turns to Agent Sanchez, "This isn't the first time he's attacked someone like this.  I don't think it's even the first one tonight.  I couldn't get a lock on the building but…"

"Man, you know, just once I wish you wouldn't be right." Agent Sanchez sighs, "You think you could get us anymore information on any of the others?"

"I can try."  JC reaches out and places his hand on the other mans shoulder.

He's sitting in a clump of bushes, quietly waiting and watching the parked car in front of him.  Just as he's about to give up a woman steps out of the building, and approaches the car.  She pulls her keys from her purse and almost gets them into the lock when he jumps from the bushes and grabs her.  She shrieks in surprise and he immediately snaps the small neck.  He reaches down and removes all the jewelry, her purse and runs, leaving the car and it's keys.

JC gasps and looks into the cold brown eyes of the man.  "I couldn't see the building number, he was sitting too far away from the building.  However, there's a 'Starbuck's' on one side and a donut shop on the other.  The woman didn't fair as lucky as the doctor here did.  You'll find a car in the back of the parking lot, a new Mustang, red and lying next to it, you'll find a red-headed woman with her neck broken."  He turns away from the man and heads over to Agent Jackson.  "You know, sometimes I wish I weren't always right as well."

"Look at it this way JC," Agent Jackson states.  "You saved a life tonight."

"Yeah, but I got to witness another murder as well." JC states with a soft sigh.

Justin steps up, "Come on Jayce, let's go home."

"You know you'll have to…"

"Yeah, he knows Agent Jackson.  You know where to find us." Justin snips.  "It's been a long day and he's tired."

*~*~*~*

JC walks back into the doctor's office, this time however he's alone.  He knocks on the door and enters, "Afternoon doc.  How you doing today?"

"I'm good, you?"

"Been better, been worse."  He walks over to the window and stands there.

"So we're gonna hover at the window again today?"

"Look doc," JC sighs.  "We go through this every time.  Every time I sit in one of your chairs or on your couch I see one of your patients.  I just don't wanna deal with that today ok?"

"Alright, so last time you were telling me about when all this first started?" She glances at him curiously, "So tell me…"

"I told the guys that it started around the time of the law suit," he turns to look at her.  "We had to sue our promoter at the time because he was getting more out of the deal than all five of us combined."  He resumes his gaze out the window, "Anyway, that's a whole other session I imagine.  And truth be told, that probably is when it started getting to the point where I'd pay attention to what I was seeing.  I used to think it was my imagination or deja vue until…I'm not sure exactly what happened.  I remember I was in my parent's kitchen and then the next thing I knew I was in a hospital bed staring up at a bright white light and my mom had a death grip on my hand.  I kept seeing these flashes of people running through my head.  Some of the people I recognized but others I had no clue who they were.  Finally I jerked my hand out of her grasp and the visions stopped and I could open my eyes.  She had tears in her eyes and when I reached out to wipe one off I got a vision of exactly what had happened to me, right down to the blood seeping into the carpet from the cut in the back of my head."  JC stopped and took a deep breath, "I'd fallen off a stool I was standing on, cracked my forehead on the counter in front of me and then hit the back of my head on one of Tyler's toys that had been laying on the floor.  It had hit me just right and cut into the base of my neck, if it had gone much deeper…well…lets just say there would never have been an Nsync."

"It wasn't too bad while I was at home because I managed to avoid touching too many people around the house.  All that changed the minute I had to come back to Florida.  You've seen how we are, the guys, I mean.  As soon as I landed I had an arm full of Justin, then each of the others.  It's kinda hard to avoid being in contact with them so I just tried to block what I saw.  Usually they were just glimpses here and there because…well…you've seen how they are.  The only one that lingers long enough to get a good vision off of was Joey and I always get the same one from him, which is kinda nice."

"Once I got used to the mass flood of visions from the guys I tried not to focus on them until Hailey started visiting me in my dreams.  That's when it started really bothering me, I couldn't get away from them then."

He turns and looks at the doctor, "You think I could get a glass of water, please?"

"Sure thing."  She gets up and pours him a glass from a pitcher in the corner and hands it to him.

JC cautiously reaches out and takes the glass and sighs with relief when no visions arrive with the glass, "Anyway.  At first the visions were of her playing.  Sometimes she was in her room, sometimes in a park, sometimes at a beach.  I never once saw Marshall though.  She was the only one, like I was the parent that was with her or something.  I never did get that, it was always just me and her.  Then the kidnapping happened.  Do I really need to go over that again?  We've covered that so many times already."

"No we don't have to go over it again.  Tell me though, how old were you when you hit your head?  Was this also around the time of the lawsuit?"

"Um…No actually it was about six months before we filed our part of the lawsuit.  I was only supposed to be home for a couple of days and it ended up being a couple of weeks."  He cocks his head to the side, "But, like I said before, I got them before that.  I just didn't realize what they were.  They also weren't quite as clear, usually just a blur of motion.  Once I started concentrating on them, like with Agent Sanchez, they started becoming stronger.  The more I tried to get one the stronger they'd be.  I guess that's how I could go back and revisit them to get more details.  I'm not sure how that worked to be honest.  I can live with the visions I guess, not like I have a choice.  I just don't get why I've got this link with Hailey.  Until we found her I'd never met her or touched her."

"Unfortunately, I don't have any answers for you about that.  Is she the only one you've ever had this kind of connection with?"

He sits quietly for a few minutes then shakes his head, "Actually, no.  When I was in LA, between the Micky Mouse Club and Nsync I had dreams about Justin that were just like the ones I've been having with Hailey.  But when I came back here and…well…he's around constantly, I don't have them anymore."

"Was it just Justin or were there other people in those?"

"No, it was just Justin.  Just like the ones with Hailey.  We were so close though that I just assumed that was why, but with Hailey…"

The doctor turns towards the door as her secretary peeks in, "Yes?"

"I'm sorry ma'am but your next appointment is here."

She checks her watch then looks at the young lady again, "Thank you.  Well Mr. Chasez, looks like we're already out of time.  Are you going to be able to come back again next week?"

"Um…actually we're gonna be out of town next week but I'll check our calendar and see when I can get back.  I guess I'll have to call in and make the appointment."

"That's great.  I'll see if I can't do some research and next time maybe we can talk more about your relationship with Justin and the others."

"You better block off more than an hour then doc." JC chuckles as he makes his way out of the office.
