Miracle In My Life - Chapter One

I was walking down this huge ass office building in New York. I couldn't believe I was actually here, *we* were actually here. We had decided as a group to move on from Lava/Atlantic to something bigger, that was more known for the type of music we'd been doing lately.

"Hey man. You look really nervous. Why?" DJ asked.

"I don't know. Aren't you just a bit nervous?" I asked.

"What? Me? No way. I can't wait to get away from Atlantic."

"Really? Why? They let us do what we wanted, pretty much."

"I'm just tired of dealing with those suits. Plus, these guys seem to dole out more cash for videos and tours. You know?"

"Yeah, I hear ya. But they got all this mad talent already. What do they need or want us for?"

"Well, they did call you back, so that has to mean something. If they weren't interested they would have just told us."

"True. Well this is it. You guys all ready?" I asked as I straightened my tie. (God, I really hate these things, but if it gets us away from them money grubbing Lava folks then I guess I'll deal with it.) I knock on the door and then slowly open it to a room full of men in suits and ties looking like they've been waiting for hours. I've never been so nervous in my life. The large man at the head of the table at the far end of the room stands, walks over to me and begins introducing everyone in the room. We (the guys and I) sit in the open seats next to the door. (Guess they figured we might want to make a quick get away.)

***********

Several hours and cups of coffee later we made our way out of the conference room with a new contract with a new record label. I couldn't believe it, after all these years of cheap budgets, we finally were gonna get some money to work with. I couldn't wait to get to work on the new album. I was so busy thinking about the new album and the videos we could do, I didn't notice the group of guys coming towards me. I ran smack into one of them.

"Sorry," I said.

"Nah, I'm sorry. Shoulda been watching where I was going." He said with a smile.

(Damn, nice eyes.) I smiled back and said, "Yeah, so should I."

"Hey, aren't you…." One of his friends started.

"Justin, that's not polite. You should introduce yourself first. Not just blatantly ask something like that." He remprimanded and then turned to me, "I'm JC and these are my friends, Justin, Joey, Chris and Lance."

"Hi, nice to meet you." I returned. "I'm Mark, and these are my friends, Rodney, Murphy, Stan and Homicide."

"DJ Homicide." I was corrected.

"Oh, hush or I'll tell them your real name." I stated.

"You wouldn't?"

"Wanna try me?" I teased.

"No."

"Good." The other men had just stood there watching us banter back and forth. When he thought we had finished JC asked, "So what are you guys doing here? I thought you guys were with Atlantic Records?"

"Well, up until about an hour ago, we were. We are now a part of the `Happy family' of Jive Records."

"Well, welcome aboard then." JC smiled again.

I decided I really liked his smile, and that wasn't the only think I was starting to like. He was one gorgeous man. I really wouldn't mind seeing more of him.

"Well, if you'll excuse us. We have a meeting with a couple of the execs down the hall here. I'm sure we'll see you around." Lance stated. He kept glaring at me, and then looking at JC. I think he had me figured out but I really didn't care.

"Yeah, I'm sure we will." Rodney said, then shoved me down the hall.

"Man, what were you staring at that guy for?" Murphy asked.

"He's cute." I answered.

"What are you talking about? You're not gay. Are you?" DJ questioned.

"No, I'm bi. And I thought he was gorgeous."

"Well, I think you're gonna have to take a number. That little blonde one didn't seem too appreciative of the way you were eying his friend." Stan stated.

"I don't care. It's not like I'm gonna go after him or anything. I just thought he was cute." I defended.

"Sure you did." Rodney teased. "We believe you man."

"Shit guys, lets go celebrate. We got two weeks then we gotta be in the studio." I diverted.

"Alright, Mr. Smooth. We'll let you off the hook this time, but don't count on it happening again."

"Yeah, yeah."

"So where we going?" DJ asked.

"There are quite a few good clubs in the area. Where are ya'll staying?" questioned a voice from down the hall.

"Um, shit. I don't know. One of those fancy ones down the street from here." I stammered as JC entered the hallway behind the man I'd finally realized was Joey.

"No problem man. We're probably staying nearby or in the same place. If you don't mind hanging with a bunch of `Boyband' members, I'd be happy to show you some of the better places to party." Joey stated.

"Yeah, Joe's from the area. He knows all the cool places to party." Justin said.

"That's cool. I don't mind hanging with you guys. It's not gonna tarnish your rep to be seen in public with us is it?" I asked.

"What rep?" Chris quipped. "We are the red-headed step children of the boyband world. Nobody takes us seriously."

"Chris, shut up." JC said, with a blush. Lance had moved to JC's side and was standing a bit in front of him, as if to protect him if need be. He hadn't said much this whole time just glared at me, like I'd stole his best friend.

"So…Is that a yes. You want us to show you around or what?" Joey reiterated.

"Sure. Sounds like fun." DJ said.

"I'm in." The rest of us said together.

"What about you JC? Lance? You guys gonna join us tonight?" Justin asked.

"I think I will." JC said, looking at me sheepishly.

Lance looked a bit shocked and then said, "I guess I could go for a while."

"Cool. Just like old times. All five of us, out on the town. This is gonna be so much fun," Chris yelled as he bounded down the hall."

"Is he always like that?" Murphy asked.

"No," Joey began, "Usually he's worse."

"I'm sorry," Rodney stated. "He seems like an interesting guy though."

"Oh, he is. There's never a dull moment with Chris around." Justin put in.

"Guys. We gotta go." Lance growled. "Especially if ya'll wanna go out tonight."

"We'll meet you at the Regency at 8 pm.?" Joey yelled as Lance shoved him down the hall. "You got it man." I stated.
