“Hey Johnny. Yeah it’s Darren.” Listen I’m not gonna be able the make the tour this time around. No I’ve got a few ideas I’m sending with a rep from the studio. He’s really young but he’s good. I think the guys’ll really like him.
****Two Weeks Later****
“Guys, could you all join me in my office in a few minutes. We need to get the set list together before the new choreographer gets here.”
(Man, I’m so nervous. What if they don’t like me? What if they think I’m too young? What was Darren thinking? Putting a 19 year-old in charge of a major group’s choreography? Shit, I’m in way over my head. They’re gonna chew me up and spit me out. Ok deep breath. Can’t keep stalling. Might as well bit the bullet and at least meet them.
Knock, knock
“Can I help you?”
“I’m here to meet Mr. Wright.”
“Name?”
“Wade Robeson. I’m the…..”
“I know who you are follow me.”
“So…What….”
“Look, don’t bother trying to get on my good side. My opinion doesn’t count. There are only five people you need to impress, but mainly one. If you get past his scrutiny the rest will do what he wants. At least for the choreography. Don’t ask who it is either, that’s for you to figure out on your own.”
“Thanks man. You’ve been a big help.”
“No problem. Ok kid, they’re in there. Good Luck.”
“Thanks. I’m gonna need it.
Knock, knock
“I got it,” Chris bounds across the room. “Hey.”
“Hello, I’m here….”
“Yeah, save it. I’m just the pretty face.” Chris teases. Hey, Johnny. I think the new kid’s here.”
“Great Chris.” A bass voice states from somewhere in the room, “Why don’t you let the man in?”
“Oh, yeah, right.” Chris stammers. “Please do come in.” He bows curtly.
“Why thank you kind sir.” Wade smiles.
“Guys please sit down so we can get this meeting started.” Johnny commands.
“Come on kid, Johnny’s wish is our command.” Chris jokes.
Wade raises an eyebrow and follows Chris into the room. He looks around the room taking in the languid attitude of the men inside. He sees a large black man in each corner of the room Must be the security team. I’d hate to have to have someone with me all the time. The first one he sees from the group is sitting in a lounge chair, laid back with a hat pulled over his face so Wade couldn’t see his face yet. The next person he laid eyes on was a fairly well built blond with spikey hair, who was busily typing on a laptop at the small table. Next came the man that had answered the door. He was short, probably about 5’8” or so, pretty well built with a small tummy. Another black man behind the desk That must be Johnny. Then there was a tall lanky man, sitting on a couch, this one had what appeared to be dark blonde stubble on his head and clear blue eyes. Hmm…He’s cute.
Lastly he spies the remaining member of the group. Whoa, now that’s what I call fine. In the corner of the room, in front of the body guard is a brown-haired, very nicely built piece of flesh. He sets down the barbells he’s been lifting, turns to return to the sitting area and stops dead in his tracks when he meets Wade’s gaze. His eye’s travel the younger man’s body, taking every detail in. God those are some blue eyes. He resumes his casual stroll back over and takes a seat in one of the only two spots left, on the sofa, in the room.
“Welcome, Wade?” Wade nods. “Glad you could join us. Come on in and have a seat.” Johnny states.
Wade walks over and sits next to the man he’d just been drooling over Well, it is the only seat left in the room and Johnny did say to sit down. Who am I to argue.
“Before we get started on the meeting I think you all should introduce yourselves.”
The man with the hat over his face removes the hat, looks at Johnny and begins to laugh. “Right Johnny, you seriously think this kid here has any interest in working with us? Please, if he does, He glances in Wade’s direction. he should already know who we are.”
As Wade’s eyes meet the cold brown eyes of this man, he freezes. Oh shit, I can’t believe this. How did I not notice he was in this group? Shit, I’m in trouble now.
“Joey?” The bass voice booms again. “Where are your manners?”
“Sorry, Lance. But if he’s done his homework, he’d know who we are.”
“He’s right Lance. It’s not like you can’t find anything out about us on the net and shit.” This from the stubbled one.
Ok, so which one of these guys is in charge of the choreography. It’s gotta be one of those two.
“Guys, it’s kinda rude to just expect people to know who we are. Not everyone is into our music.” Lance stated.
“Fine, Jesus guys must we all act like children?” This from Chris. “I’m Chris.”
“I’m Lance.”
“Justin.”
“Joey.”
“JC.” From the God next to him. “And you?”
“I’m Wade.”
“Great, now we can get down to business. Who wants to go first?” Johnny asks.
“I will.” Joey growls. “What makes you think you’re qualified to do our choreography?”
“I’ve been dancing for most of my life. I’ve been working with Darren now for 2 years. Give me two weeks and if you aren’t happy with what I bring to the table I’ll leave.”
“Sounds fair to me.” Chris says.
“Darren said he was sending some moves or ideas with you?” Justin asks.
“Yes.”
“Well, can we see them? Hear them?” Lance asks.
“Sure, you got a studio around here? I’m sure you don’t want me to do it in here.”
“No, there’s a studio downstairs.” Johnny responds. “Boys? Let’s go.”
They all get up and head for the studio. Once in the studio, Wade strips down the to shorts and wifebeater he had on under the clothes he wore.
“Johnny, you didn’t tell us we were gonna be dancing today. I can’t dance in this.” Joey said, waving to the clothes he had on.
“Joe, quit bitching. You’ve danced in worse and we all know you have shit here so go change and be quiet.” Justin says.
The rest of the guys begin to strip down to wifebeaters, shorts, which miraculously they all seemed to be wearing, and tennis shoes.
“You got Bye, Bye, Bye in here somewhere? That’s the song Darren gave me notes on.”
“Yeah,” JC walks over to the stereo, turns it on and sets it up. “There you go.” He smiles at Wade. “Let’s see what you got, kid.”
