In The Name Of Charity - Chapter One

"What the hell are you watching?" Howie asked.

"TV. What does it look like?"

"It looks.. It looks like…" Nick trailed off.

"Wow, is that…." Kevin says, sitting on the couch.

"Hey, what are we all watching?" Brian asks, leaping onto the couch next to Kevin.

"Would you all shut up? I'm trying to hear this."

"Sorry. Why the hell are you watching this?" Nick asked.

"Can't you all just shut up? I would like to hear this, thank you very much."

"Isn't this that video you got the other day? You could always just rewind it." Howie suggested.

"I will. I plan on watching it allot. Now shut up. You're gonna make me miss the best part."

"What's that? You already saw the best song they do. Which one are you….Oh. Wow!" Kevin says.

"Whoa. I think I missed that the first time through." Nick stammers.

"Did he just do what I think he did?" Brian asks.

"Rewind that. Quick. I gotta see that again." Howie says.

"Yeah, I'm with him. Rewind NOW!" Kevin yells.

"Whoa, Kev. Calm down a bit would ya." Brian says.

"What? That was hot. Was that part of their choreography or did he just do that for the special?" Kevin asks.

"It's part of their choreography."

"How the hell do you know that?" Nick inquires.

"Because I pay attention, and I've seen them in concert."

"What? When?" Howie asks.

"A couple weeks ago, in Chicago."

"Wow. So that's where you took off too. Why didn't you tell me? I would've went with you?" Kevin states.

"No. I just went to see them perform. You know, check out the competition? Then I saw that and…"

"And got a bit turned on?" Brian asks.

"No! Well, yeah. Didn't any of you?"

"Yeah." Nick says.

"You're damn straight. That was just plain sexy." Kevin drools.

"Thank you, Kev. I should've known you'd agree with me."

"No problem man. So tell me. What's it like live and not on tape?" Kevin asks.

"Man, they are so hot live. And that move is enough to make you drop. You should have heard the screaming after that. Then in the next song, man, just watch, you'll understand."

"Ok. Well I think I'm going to bed. I'm not gonna sit here while the two of you sit here and drool over THEM." Brian states. "Don't forget we gotta be up early tomorrow."

"Yeah, yeah. I think I'm gonna hit the sack too man." Nick says.

"Umhmm. Night guys." Kevin mumbles.

"Night. I'm outta here too." Howie says.

"Night." AJ grunts.

"Finally. Now rewind that damn tape. I gotta see that man again." Kevin states.

"Hold on. I gotta pee and get something to drink. I'll rewind it while I'm gone. Don't you dare restart it until I get back."

"I won't man, I won't." Kevin says

"Ok, you can push play now."

"Good."

"You know he gets better looking everytime I see them."

"Yeah, I hear ya man. Have you seen that new hair style he's sporting. My God, it should be a crime to be that gorgeous."

"The funny thing is 'he' doesn't even think he's 'that' good looking."

"Yeah, I know. He's all like, 'Me, no way. Justin's the heartthrob.'"

"If only he'd get a clue. So, you talk to him when you were in Chicago?"

"No. Damn security wouldn't let me get near them and I didn't want to make a scene."

"Yeah, don't need 'that' getting in the tabloids. I can just see it now. 'Boyband member, AJ McClean, stalking a member of the rival boyband, Nsync.' Oh could you see the faces on PR in the morning on that one?"

"Yeah, real funny there Kev. I'm not stalking him. I just can't take my eyes off the man. Check out that body and tell me you're not having the same problem."

"Hey, check it out. Is he sporting what I think he is? Wow. You really need to catch that one and see if that thing is for real. If it's that big during a show, can you imagine what it's like in bed?"

"Would you stop talking about him like that? I would like to know that too, but, I'd like to get to know 'him' first."

"So, you're saying you really 'like' him, huh?"

"Yeah. He seems pretty cool. I'd like to talk to him a bit and really get to know him though."

"I hear ya. Man, you should just call him and see if he wants to get together and do something."

"Yeah, sure that would go over real well."

"Hey, don't knock it til you try it. You could see if they're gonna be in town for Howie's thing next week. They always seem to be up to doing charity stuff. Ask him if he would like to go." "Now you're talking. How about we finishing watching this video now?"

"Sounds like a plan to me. Remind me to call and see if I can get through to him in the morning."

"Sure, now shut up man. Your man's singing."

*****The next day*****

ring, ring

"JC's phone, Joey speaking. How may I help you?"

"Hi, I'm trying to get a hold of JC Chasez."

"Well, he's in the recording booth right now. Can I take a message?"

"Yeah, could you have him call me at 555-1495?"

"Sure, no problem."

"Thanks."

Click

"Hey, Joe? Who was that?"

"I don't know."

"Well, did they leave a message?"

"Yeah, here."

"Thanks. Geez Joey, next time could you be a little more vague when taking messages for me? Why'd you answer my phone anyway man?"

"I don't know. I guess I thought it was mine. I just heard it ringing so I answered it. Sorry dude."

"Nah, don't worry about it. Guess I'll just call back and see who it was and what they wanted."

"K. Sorry about that man."

"Don't worry about it Joe." JC dials the number and waits.

"Hello?"

"Hi, this is JC. Did you just call me?"

"Ummm. Yeah. Can you hang on just a minute? I'm kinda in the middle of something. Give me two seconds ok? Don't hang up?"

"Ok, I can hold for a few."

"Thanks. (Puts hand over the receiver.) Guys, can you go in the other room for a minute? Kev he called back. What do I do know man?"

"Talk to him you idiot."

"Oh yeah. Good idea. (Takes hand off the receiver.) Sorry about that. I was in a room full of people and didn't really feel like fighting with them about the noise level."

"That's ok. Believe me I understand about noisy friends. So what can I do for you?"

"Um, well…"

"Um, you seem to have me at a bit of a disadvantage here. I don't suppose you'd like to tell me who you are?"

"Um. Yeah, I guess I probably should. Just promise you won't hang up when I do, ok?"

"Ok. I promise. So who are you?"

"It's AJ."

"AJ… AJ…who?"

"Um…"

"Oh, AJ! As in AJ McClean of the Backstreet Boys? That AJ?"

"Uh… Yeah."

"Hey, how you doing man? I haven't seen you guys in ages."

"I'm doing good man. You?"

"I'm great. We're in the studio now doing the new album. You're touring now right?"

"Yeah. We're touring. I haven't got a clue where we are right now."

Laughs, "Yeah, I can understand that. So what'd ya call for? I can't imagine it was just to shoot the breeze. What kinda crab does Jive have up their sleeve this time?"

"Well, actually this was Jive's idea. Kevin actually suggested it. Jive has no idea I'm calling you."

"Ooook. So, what's this about?"

"Well, I was wondering what you were doing next week?"

"I have no clue. What day?"

"Um, hang on. Let me ask Kevin."

"Sure, I'll get Lance, our walking, talking schedule."

"Hey, Kevin? What day is Howie thing?"

"It's on Wednesday. They coming?"

"I don't know. He's checking with their schedule. Hey, JC. It's on Wednesday."

"K. Hold on. Lance what we got scheduled for next Wednesday?"

"Nothing. Joey and I are heading to Toronto but you three are free for a few days, then you and Justin are due back here on Friday. Chris has to go to New York and do some stuff for FuMan. Why?"

"Backstreet wants us to come down and attend Howie's thing."

"What thing?"

"I don't know. Hey, AJ? What is this thing anyway?"

"It's a charity event in honor of Howie's sister."

"Oh. Hang on again. It's a charity event for Howie's sister. Am I free to go? It's on Wednesday. I know Justin's flying out to see Brit, so I'm the only one free, right?"

"Yeah, you don't have anything that I know of. It shouldn't be a problem but I'd make sure Johnny knows where you are. Don't just disappear."

"Yeah, you know I'm always the one that just up and disappears for know reason what so ever. Hey, AJ? You still there man?"

"Yeah."

"Good. I should be able to make it down. It's in Orlando right?"

"Yeah."

"So… Is that all you wanted or was there something else?"

"Um, actually…"

"What man? You need me to do some publicity statement or something? All you gotta do is ask man. Spit it out."

"Well, I was wondering if you'd like to hang out a bit while you're here?"
