I offer Website Development at an affordable price. You can have a simple text-based site with minimal graphics, or you can have a few more graphics and photographs - the choice is yours! Like to cut to the chase? Just check out my rates, see some sites I have written, or just contact me to discuss your requirements.
So. What's involved in getting your website developed?
The process varies depending on the requirements of the client, and often also depending on the type of business involved. But I usually try to involve the client as much as possible. After all, it's your site....
This involvement usually starts before the design stage (after the price and content has been agreed on), where I consult the client about their personal preferences, for example colors or fonts. Often the client will have some idea how they want their site to look, especially if they have spent any significant time looking at other websites. I gather as much content as possible from the client - text/information, photographs, pictures & logos, etc. Then it's a matter of designing the website based on those requirements and this includes inputting, preparing and formatting text, scanning and preparing photographs, pictures & logos. Sizes and numbers of unnecessary pictures and other graphics is best kept to a minimum - if they are too big, or there are too many, then the page will take longer to load. This also applies to development - a simple, mostly text-based site will be quicker to develop than one with more graphics and other multimedia. I have a digital camera as well as a 'film' camera (you know, the 'old' kind....).
When the site is completed, I try the site in a few different browsers, for compatibility reasons, and I test all links. Then I can give the client a preview to see if they like it. If so, then it is time to find a 'home' for it - i.e. somewhere to host it. Generally, if the client has an existing account with an Internet Service Provider then the ISP should also be able to host the website. After that it's just a matter of uploading the files to the server, and the site will be 'live'.
But the process doesn't always stop there - many website owners need to have their site updated for various reasons. For example, they may need to change the price they have displayed on their website, or just add or change a photo or two. I can also arrange this without breaking your budget.
Some background information
I have been involved with computers since the 1980's, first as a Programmer with the State Rail Authority for several years, then with home computers. In 2001 I worked for a short time as a tutor in various computer related subjects, including Bushnet, a program to bring internet awareness and education to people in rural Australia. My family and I have 3 PC's which I built: mine is a 3000GHz Dual Pentium 4, networked to my wife's which is a Celeron 2.53Ghz, and our son has an Athlon 2600+XP. All are running Windows XP Professional. I started writing websites in 1998, and although a number of them are no longer active, you can view the active ones on the Sites page, as well as screenshot images of the inactive ones.
I use a range of software, including Photoshop, Paintshop Pro & Bryce.
