She hears his voice once again
Past memories come back,
As does past pain.
With one simple "hello"
All is resurrected from the grave.

On the outside it seems innocent enough
This simple greeting of "hello"
He is courteous, calm...
But she can feel the cold.

A hand grasps tightly around her heart,
Just as again the old memories start-
Squeezing out all the pleasure that should be found
In these past memories.

She listens uncomfortably
To his chatter-
Suddenly to realize-
Does this really matter?

"Hello?" he says once more-
As he hears the phone hit the floor-
She just could not take it anymore.

In the yard she does sit
Tears coming out bit by bit.
All she really wants
Is what was all before-
For him to be "normal" just once more.

For the laughter to start
And the tears to stop
For the memories not to
Tear her apart-
And to feel the beating of her heart.

If only she had stayed silent-
Kept it all inside-
It's easier to hide the hurt
When it's cloaked behind a lie.
At least then when she heard his voice
She wouldn't want to die.

If only she had not told him
Those 3 deadly words-
He would still be "normal"
And she could just move on.

But she knows she really loves him
And she must pay the price
Of listening to others say
"Go on tell him, it will all be fine."

If she hadn't told him-
Sure she'd never know-
But at least she wouldn't feel
All alone and deathly cold.

Her will is giving up-
Since her dignity is torn to shreads.
Can't even salvage the little tiny threads.
No amount of duct tape-
Nor any amount of glue-
Could undo the damage
Of those 3 deadly words-
I LOVE YOU.
