MEDICAL HELP FOR COMMON/SERIOUS ILLNESSES
When you fall sick , your first point of contact will be a general practitioner. Ask around and you will get recommendations for a "good doctor" in the neighbourhood. He will do the primary investigations and suggest some medicines. Cost – usually 25 to 50 rupees if he is a doctor with a bachelor’s degree ( MBBS) and Rs 100 to 200 if the doctor is an MD( master’s degree).
He may recommend some lab tests and give you the name of a laboratory to visit. Pretty straightforward stuff – the results of the blood test/urine test/malaria test are available in six hours or so ( you can ask for them immediately if you are traveling on) . Pick them up and go back to the doctor.
Medicines he prescribes will be available in the nearest medical shop – every neighbourhood has many.
YOUR HOME MEDICAL INSURANCE
Take receipts for your insurance company if required. Do not attempt fake receipts – there are big crackdowns nowadays.
ILLNESS GETS SERIOUS
Your first doctor will recommend you to a specialist if you need more tests. And if it is a specialized disease. He will suggest a name and the speciality of medicine. Check around for the doctors name and visit him.
HOSPITALIZATION
Inquire about the cost involved, the validity of your medical insurance and then get admitted. Every city has some fine hospitals. Do make an effort to find them out and then get admitted. Apollo Hospitals is a well known chain even though it is expensive. See the medical treatment section in India , for more names.
(*pls give some more subtopics for this and any additions and amendments that you propose*).
