Stitiching Clothes in India - (2 replies)

Most women coming to India find the fabrics irresistible and do some wonderful work stitching a dress or trousers or whatever...

Men have been known to have a great bargain with shirt stitching as well as trousers.

What is the cost advantage ? Did it last for a long time? What are the best fabrics ?

How was your experience dealing with the tailor..any recommendations ?

Cheers !

2. tailoring

The work is cheap but, from my experience, often not of the highest quality. Even when I took a tailor who specialised in suits a pair of trousers and some material and asked him to copy them I had to go back three times because his work was imprecise. At least he did high quality stitching, though, because some tailors don't even do overlocking stitching unless you ask for it -- and that's no good because your clothes will fall apart after a few washes without it. It seems to me that if you want to get the most from your tailor you either have to watch over them like an eagle, get lucky, or develop a good relationship with them so that they will make the effort to do a good job.
