ASTROLOGY/HOROSCOPES

Astrology is the study of how events on earth is based upon the positions and movements of the sun, moon, planets and stars. Depending on the position of these mysterious bodies at the time of our birth, Astrologers believe these bodies and their movements reflect our individualism and personality.

In order to understand an individual's character at the heart, Astrologers created and used a diagram known as a horoscope (aka birth) charts. This horoscope charts helps to analyze our character with respect to the heavenly bodies and their positions during the time of our birth. The horoscope is illustrated by an ecliptic circle. ("The ecliptic is the plane on which the earth orbits around the sun in a year. It is divided into twelve sections, called the signs of the Zodiac. The Zodiac divides the calendar year into 12 sections, and then each section is represented by a sign." Definition excert from The Mystery of Astrology by Nicki Tesch)

There are two dominant type of zodiac interpretations:

EASTERN ASTROLOGY
According to Chinese legend, the order of the twelve signs was determined by Buddha, upon celebration of the Chinese New Year (which falls on different dates, from mid-January to mid-February.) Buddha invited all of the animals in the kingdom together for a meeting, but only 12 creatures attended. The first to arrive was the quick-wit Rat (who was aggressive enough to jump off of the back of the Ox in order to be the first in line) next in line came the serious, enduring and hard-working Ox with the courageous and honorable Tiger. Then followed the outspoken and majestic Dragon along with the philosophical Snake. The physically active Horse arrived with the artistic Goat. The spirited and active Monkey and the showy Rooster came as well. The last to join the others was the watchful Dog and the meticulous, friendly Pig. Buddha gave each animal a year of its own, bestowing the nature and characteristics of each to those born in that animals year. A well known Chinese saying is, 'This is the animal that hides in your heart'.

WESTERN ASTROLOGY
The signs of the zodiac for Western Astrology include Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn and Pisces. Astrologers assign every planet (including the sun and moon) with a particular sign of the Zodiac.
