WORK
OUT TIPS
(Excerpt from Rock
Bodies Episode by VH1)
USHER - COMBAT CONDITIONING
Usher says that the body he has now is all due to good genes, hard
work, and discipline. He started working on his 6-pack since he was
16, doing up to 1000 crunches daily. Blessed with a high metabolism,
he enjoys a diet rich in protein (chicken, beef, fish), with moderate
carbs (potatoes, pasta, rice), and plenty of vitamins (fruits and
leafy vegetables). He stays away from butter, except when at home
with family, and will drink a gallon of water the day before a video/photo
shoot to cleanse.
Usher calls his daily workouts "forty minutes of funk."
He warms up by stretching, doing jumping jacks, skipping rope, or
running in place. His stretching is crucial to maintaining his flexibility,
particularly since his choreography demands it. After building up
a good sweat, he'll break into what his trainer calls "combat
conditioning" -- a series of plyometric exercises that focus
on lifting one's own body weight. That means, he does push ups for
his arms and chest, dips for his triceps, handstand push ups for his
shoulders and back, and leg raises for his abdominals. Amazingly,
Usher maintains his physique without using free weights.
ANASTACIA - POWER TRAINING
For Anastacia, exercise is more than a way of staying in shape. It's
also a vital part of her every day life. Since being diagnosed with
Crohn's Disease at age 13, Anastacia has had little choice but to
work out, watch her diet, and control stress. To do this, her sister
and personal trainer Shauna has her on a program that keeps her at
a moderate, but steady fitness level. Shauna mixes elements of cardio
and weights into Anastacia's program. She concentrates on exercises
that target large muscle groups: lunges for the thighs and glutes,
push ups for the chest, seated military press for the shoulders, bicep
curls, and tricep kickbacks. Anastacia uses lighter weights and focuses
on using proper form for all the exercises. She'll usually finish
her workout with some aerobics - the elliptical is her machine of
choice.
