Schubert’s
German Dances and Ecossaises
Schubert was especially sensitive to the duet medium and wrote short, delicate, and
lyrical compositions as well as grand and intense major works. The brevity of these dances
indicates that Schubert intended them for the ballroom rather than for concert
performance. Weekley & Arganbright have added fingerings, a few interpretive marks (in
