Early this week till mid-week, as affected by a southerly airstream, it was hot and fine with abundant sunshine over this district. That southerly airstream was replaced by a fresh easterly airstream on Thursday when there were sunny periods and haze over the district. Friday, it was cloudy in the morning. Cloud thinned out during the day and there were sunny periods in the afternoon. Saturday, a cold front crossed the coast of southeastern China. A relatively cooler northerly airstream associated with this cold front affected the district, where it was fine during the day and at night air temparture dropped to about 22 degrees, a few degrees lower than last couple of days, because northerly wind gradually strengthened then. On the other hand, an area of low pressure to the west of northern Pacific intensified into a tropical depression, named Chanchu. Chanchu gruadually intensified into a severe tropical storm before crossing the Philipines. While crossing the central part of South China Sea, it further intensified into a typhoon.

在命名為珍珠。珍珠逐漸增強至強烈熱
帶風暴，並且橫過菲律賓；於橫過南海
中部時，再增強為颱風。
