WW: What made you want to join/start a band?

Ryan: So I could play a guitar and make some noise, which I did and am still doing!

WW: How did P>S>P come together?

Ryan: A few years ago Rik (bass) and Gaffer (guitar) were playing together and wanted a drummer and a singer to start a new band, so they met some other kids and started jamming with them.

Lots of line up changes later and musical progressions, I ended up being in the band playing guitar and singing, plus we now have a new drummer, Jason.

WW: Purple Sticky Punch (P>S>P) is quite a wacky name, does it mean anything to the band?

Ryan: It's just the name that was there from the beginning, something silly that has just stuck, it doesn't bare any meaning to the band itself, we are kind of going with ‘P>S>P’ now, it's easier to say anyway!

WW: Describe what listeners experience through P>S>P:

Ryan: Both live and on record you get to experience the energy of the music and the effort we put into playing it (especially live!) My frustrations and feelings are vented through the songs so the listener gets to hear those in the music.

WW: The current UKHC scene is rapidly throwing out new bands, what makes you different from other UKHC bands?

Ryan: I don't see P>S>P as a 'UKHC' band, we are just young UK band who are making a load of noise.

We may get classed UKHC, but we aren't a hardcore band as such, we just play the music that we like to play, don't stick to any rules books or 'genre tags' which can sometimes come along when you typecast yourself as a band.

WW: The UK press has a habit of being harsh towards up-and-coming British rock bands but you've had the praise of both Metal Hammer and Rock Sound magazines. Does this give you the determination and motivation to keep pushing for better things?

Ryan: Of course, it’s always a boost when you get some recognition… and the good reviews do make you feel good! Like you say though, it can give you the motivation to keep pushing what you are doing musically when you know that you doing something right, although I’d still do this if no one gave a shit! It is nice to see your band mentioned in a mag’ or fanzine, but the thing I like the most is the feeling I get when I open my post or e-mails and there are requests for CDs, but I guess most of these wouldn’t arrive if it wasn’t for the mentions in publications and websites, so we have to be grateful for that and I am, extremely.

WW: Is this brutal metalcore sound that P>S>P currently create how you perceived it would be when you first started out?

Ryan: When we first started out I don’t think anyone had any idea of how we were going to develop or what we were going to/wanted to sound like, it just progressed and is still progressing. We have no idea what we may sound like next year and we don’t have any plans, it’s all just development.

Plus with us having a new drummer that may change the way some of the new stuff comes out. It’s all good and I look forward to see how we move on.

WW: What's the latest gossip that you can give us (gigs, recordings etc)?

Ryan: Well, you know we now have a new drummer, Jason, and that is working out very well. We have our first gig with him on Friday 13th September (oooh!) in Manchester, which we are very much looking forward to!

We have some gigs booked for November (12th Rotherham, 16th St. Albans, 23rd London). Hopefully lots more gigs will be confirmed soon, so keep a look out.

We are hopefully going to be recording a new track for an, as yet, unnamed special release with some friends of ours (this needs to be arranged) plus we are gunna get writing lots more music with our new drummer. Just check out the website for updates.
