1.   When someone signs up for a Web site they have to accept the Terms of Service of the hosting company. This is entirely a matter between the site-owner and the hosting company, and a site-owner's membership of the WestHollywood Community webring does not affect it one way or the other. However, the webring must have its own code of conduct for its members in order to remain a civilized society and so these guidelines have been adopted for that purpose. To become and remain a member of the WestHollywood Community webring a site-owner must accept them.
Publishing pages on the Web
2.   Many new site-owners find difficulty in publishing their new pages on the Web, because it is not immediately clear how to do so. The first Guideline is that a Web site should have a proper front page to which the URL (address of the site) leads. For the system to work properly, the file for this front page must be called index.html - precisely that, all lower case. The URL will then lead straight to it.
Advertising
3.   Most "free" Web hosting services display advertising material on Web pages. This is the price we have to pay for the service. It is recommended that any additional advertising should be kept to a minimum. It is not our intention to create a webring of commercial sites.
Offensive content
4.   Content which is insulting or offensive, racist or homophobic is totally unacceptable. Similarly hacking or other content which instructs or encourages harmful activity is not acceptable.
5.   All the pages published in the webring must be open to all. No password protection or other "gateway" security such as Adult Verification checks will be tolerated: any such site will be immediately removed from the webring.
6.   The WestHollywood Community webring is dedicated to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered community. It is therefore to be expected that members' sites will have content which might be surprising or even unacceptable in other contexts. The open nature of the webring requires site-owners to be sensitive in the way they express themselves on their pages.
7.   Profane and vulgar language should be avoided. The use of certain words and terms in an appropriate context is acceptable, but should not be excessive.
