The Book Signing

Part two: The Big Day

Bullshit! You came down here to see your Grandma!

(Links below will take you to pictures)
(For those of you who don't know, 'Give me some sugar, baby' is a popular catch phrase from Army of Darkness.
This is important to know later on.)

Whooooo!!! What a rush!!
I just got back from the book signing a couple of hours ago.
It was... words just can't do the experience justice. That's how damn cool it was.
But, Lemmie start at the beginning...

The book store wasn't going to start seating people until 6:00 so we got there at 5:00, expecting to only
see a few people there. There were only about 45 or some odd people in front of us which wasn't too bad.
Well, we waited in that line until 6:00 so we could stick a piece of paper to a chair to reserve a seat for
the Question and Answer Session. We grabbed some seats about 4 rows back near the center so they weren't too bad!

After another hour of waiting they made the announcement that it was (finally) time for Bruce to take the stage.
Some guy made a really good introduction speech, saying that Bruce is the most pivotal thing on earth right now
until cold fusion is discovered, unless he discovers it himself in which no one would be surprised.

Everyone clapped, cheered, and screamed when Bruce made his big entrance. It was very surreal seeing someone you normaly only see on TV
and in movies in real life. He took the stage and the first words out of his mouth were
"This is Tempe, Right?"
He answered some questions and talked a little about his book. I don't remember every thing said but the
first question was "Is there going to be an Evil Dead 4?" If you know Bruce Campbell (or even read the book, for crying out loud) you
would know that that is the most irritating question you could ask, yet someone always asks.
"Wow, I've never heard that question before! Are you from Tempe?!"

After Bruce finished answering about 10 questions, it was time to wait in line some more.
"Alright." he said "It's time to do the signing." He pointed to a bowl of candy. "And while you are up here, I'll give you some sugar"
Since we all had tickets, they called us up by numbers in sets of 20. My mom had number 46 and I had 47, so we
had a little wait. We sat and watched other people get their books signed and, because the first three rows of folding chairs had to be put away, we now had a front row seat to watch it.

Finally, it was my mom's turn to go up and meet Bruce. The first thing she did after shaking his hand was ask him for
A kiss! He said that he had to sign her book, 'Give me some sugar, baby'.
I'm not sure what else they said but before my mom left, she told him "My daughter is next and she is a nervous wreck."
"Don't worry, I'll take care of her."

(Now for the good part)

I went up and shook his hand. He asked me what my name was and grabbed my book. He looked up and saw my dad with the camera.
"Do you want an official picture?"
I nodded my head and said yes.
"Well, let's pretend we're contemplating the book"
I thought this was especially awesome because in everyone else's "official picture" that I saw him take,
he was just pointing at the person, at the camera, or doing the thumbs up.
The picture was snapped and he turned his attention back to the book.
He asked me if I was born in Arizona. I said that I was born in New York but moved shortly after.
"How do you like it here?"
"Um, well, it's hot."
Bruce agreed enthusiastically. Probably because at the moment the book store was having A/C problems
I asked him to write 'Give me some sugar, baby' (Not knowing that my mom had the same inscription.)
He said "Sure" and said each word as he wrote it.
I told him that he really made my summer and he wished me well as he shook my hand again.

The rest was really a blur as I went home completely giddy
It was a lot of fun and, in the end, I did get some of his sugar...

Alright! I don't wanna play this game anymore!

More Murmurings?
Back Home?

Are you from Tempe?
