Richard Rawson, a hosier of Princess Street, served Leicester as Mayor in 1835.

He was the 400th person
to hold the office since the first recorded
mayor (William Leveric) in 1209.

Rawson Street was named in his honour

For 33 years a faithful servant to the
Corporation of this Borough.
Who died April 28 1889 aged 84 years.

Thomas Rose, who lived in Albion Street,
was the Corporation messenger.

John Ryley

a gracious and richly stored mind
was for many years an intimate friend
of the celebrated
Robert Hall
And after a life devoted to literature
fell asleep in the faith of
the Divine Redeemer
September 19 1856
in the 77th year of his age
