cookie is the most mysterious being of the Welgon Age. He looks a lot like a kid, and because of that, none of the Welgon Age's other denizens ever take him seriously (except, in some rare moments of awareness, Sarkon). In fact, he is so small that his name doesn't even have a capital. We don't really know how he got to the Welgon Age, but since he went back to bed just before appearing there (cookie), we can assume he's dreaming. He is as unselfish as one can be, and probably doesn't even notice his own existence (cookie, The Vanishing Point). At times his innocence makes him look somewhat dimwitted (cookie, Ultimate Power, The Substance), and that's what his companions think he is. He does, however, have "stupendous" or "supernatural" mental powers (Ultimate Power, The Substance), and Sarkon even suspects that he is omnipotent (The Vanishing Point). Fun stands highest in his scale of values, to the point that he doesn't seem to need anything else to live. His higher state of awareness and his perception of what the Welgon Age actually is make him very afraid at least once, though (Psycho Worship), but Sarkon helps him out of that fear. He is the kid who asks questions the right way, and because of that he is an invaluable help in Sarkon's philosophical quests (Psycho Worship, The Vanishing Point, The Center of the Universe). There are actually hints that he is the one who is creating the Welgon Age (Welcome to the Welgon Age, The Unfinished Religion). He has no known goal in life, except that he wants to be an artist (Welcome to the Welgon Age); maybe his goal is simply the Welgon Age itself. |
