CERRIDWEN
CARIDWEN
CERIDWEN
Welsh bards called themselves Cerddorion (sons of Cerridwen). The bard Taliesin, founder of their craft, was said to be born of Cerridwen and to have tasted a potent from her magick cauldron of inspiration.

Wife of the giant Tegid and mother of a beautiful girl Creirwy and an ugly boy Avagdu. In her magickal cauldron, she made a potion called greal (from which the word Grail probably came). The potion was made from six plants for inspiration and knowledge.

Cerridwen has a fairly mixed image in the literature.   In modern Wicca she is usually seen as a Crone Goddess: the dark mother.  As usual that's not the Cerridwen I'm personally aquainted with.  On journeys to the otherworld she has come to me a number of times and she always appears some where in her 30's or 40's.  The first time I met her was in a rose garden.  She was with Creirwy (her daughter) and she decided to give me a lecture about the fact that I needed to do some ruthless pruning in my garden.  I met her another time when I was searching for a teacher for the Celtic path.  She offered to teach me and I refused to recognize her even though she told me her name because I kept insisting that Cerridwen couldn't be such a young woman (some times I can be stuborn to the point of stupidity -- but I'm learning)
