| I commenced working for Foley Bro's at Foley scaling logs in |
| the yard at $20.00 per month. This is awful small wages for |
| such work but times are so hard that it is the best I can do. |

| Johnny Secomb came up here on a visit and stayed over |
| Christmas. Had not been here since harvest. |

| I quit working for Foley Bro's and came home. Did not like |
| the job. |
| Saturday, January 06, 1894 |
| [ She gave me a nice pair of work mitts she knit herself ] I |
| went down to see Lizzie and we had a nice time. Went down |
| to meeting but the minister did not come and we almost froze. |
| Friday, January 12, 1894 |
| Mary went out to St. Cloud to attend the Normal School. Her |
| first term. |
| Sunday, January 14, 1894 |
| Jim went over to Milaca to go to school. This is his first time |
| to go away from home to stay any length of time. |
| Tuesday, January 16, 1894 |
| I settled my law-suit with the R.R. Co. for $40.00. they to pay |
| my lawyer and court fees. Better than I ever expected to get |
| out of it. |
| Saturday, January 27, 1894 |
| I went down to see Lizzie. [ an awful blizzard ] She was down |
| to Johnson's ??(might be Joelsons) in Santiago. I went |
| down there and stayed all night. We came home the 28th. I |
| had a horse and cutter. First time I was ever there. |
