Jim & I went to Oak Park to help the Oak Park camp M.W.A.
initiate some new members. It rained thundered and
lightened so we could not get home until almost morning. I
never saw such a rain at this time of the year. About eight

Dear old uncle Martin died at 9-15 P.M. today he has not
spoke for a week.
Tuesday, October 31, 1899
We buried him in the Santiago Cemetary where Father is and
so many of the old friends and settlers lay. How we shall
miss him, as long as I can remember I have been near
enough to go see him. How many pleasant hours I have
spent with him before he sold his place and come to live with
Mother. And since he has been there we have got so used to
seeing him. But such is life. I hope his suffering is over for
all time to come.
