I had such a shock this morning when I checked the news on the

internet. The mass suicide of the Heaven's Gate people was very

disturbing especially given Margaret and my little trip to watch the

comet. I remember going to a meeting in the basement of the

Magic Lantern building back in the 1970's where two of the

people from the cult came to Spokane to recruit. I do not think

they made any converts and I did not feel that their argument was

very compelling. I had gone because I had read about their

bizarre ideas and was curious. Very sad indeed.
