A Fresh Start

July 27, 1998

It has been sooooo....long since I have worked on my web pages. I just got so burned out. I have needed a break. Perhaps it is because I had nothing else to do for a while but web pages that I overdid it. I don't know. Anyhow....

In just 4 days I'm moving out. No more living with parents---hopefully ever again. I got a job offer last week to be a hall director at a small university in Illinois. Thing is, I start working next Monday. So, I will fly up to St. Louis on Friday and my aunt will drive me the rest of the way. She'll also help me out. I'm so excited I could burst (although at the moment I'm so tired I hardly notice). We have packed all my stuff. Tomorrow UPS will pick it all up. UPS was the cheapest way to move my stuff. Most moving companies wanted a $1 a pound. UPS was only $.36 a pound and it gets there sooner at that.

The biggest concern for most is my disability and transportation. I will be about 6 blocks from the main housing office and won't have a car. Walking....well, I can only walk 3 blocks at the moment (I'm sure that will increase). I will get a bike when I get to town. Head over to Wal-Mart, pick a bike I like and ride out of there after paying for it. The important stuff.

Mom and dad bought my 4-drawer filing cabinet. I know I need something for all my files, but I almost need a bookshelf more. I might use the money for a bookshelf and save the rest and keep saving until I have enough for the filing cabinet. I can't wait to move into my apartment (it is part of the dorm, but furnished). I will definitely make it my own. I will also feel like it is my place. Here, with the parents, I feel more like a guest than at home.

I won't be on the computer for a while since I need to set up a new email address when I move up there. Hopefully I will set it up quickly. I don't know how I could handle not having internet access.

I hope I really like it at this school. I guess I will have to wait and see.
