Finbar of Sevenwaters By Kat Lai
August, 2003
This is a "Post-It portrait" I did in August of one of my favourite characters in the Sevenwaters trilogy. The sketch is inspired by a description at the beginning of Daughter of the Forest of a young Finbar lying on the grass beside the Sevenwaters lake looking off into the unknown while his brothers and sister explore nearby. This also marks the first time I've ever done a sketch, looked at it later with more objective eyes and thought, "Damn, he's CUTE!"
If you haven't read the Sevenwaters Trilogy, I highly recommend it. The first is a re-telling of the old Irish fairy tale about the girl whose brothers are turned into swans, and the following two are about her descendants and their part in the battle against their enemies. All three books are so well written, that even after I finished them, the stories held me in their thrall for a long time afterwards. A small warning though: these is not recommended for those who think love stories are dumb. They're not Harlequins to be sure, but the love angle does play a huge part in all three stories.
