Wow, I'm pregnant! What now???

"You need to get a big bottle of Tums," Sister-Friend explains to her dear friend.

"Okay," says Anne, furiously scribbling a list.

"And here's your Pregnancy Tea, for your nausea."

"It's wonderful," interjects another friend.

"Okay, now are you taking prenatal vitamins?" queries Sister-Friend.

"No, and I don't go see the doctor for another 3 weeks," answers Anne.

"That's too long. Add over the counter prenatal vitamins to your list. When you go to the doctor, ask her for a prescription for the vitamins. There's one out there that has a stool softener in it -- you'll want that. Constipation will become a major topic in your life," she explains unflinchingly.

"You might have some diarrhea at first -- if you do, eat bananas," Sister-Friend continues.

"Oh, this sounds fun," mutters Anne.

Sister-Friend pauses and looks at her chum. "Add Altoids to your list," she instructs.

"My breath is going to get bad too???"

Sister-Friend chuckles. "No, the Altoids are for a different reason. You need something fun on your list." She leans forward and whispers in Anne's ear. Anne blushes.

"Really?" she asks Sister-Friend, giggling.

"That's what I've heard ..." says Sister-Friend.

Then she blushes.

"Pregnancy is for such a short time. It really is. You need to be sure to have fun. Enjoy every minute of it that you can -- buying maternity clothes, deciding on a name ... you and your hubby are going to have a wonderful time. Never forget what a gift it is to be able to carry one's own child. I believe that a child is meant for you, and would be yours whether by birth or by adoption ...

"But how wonderful, what a gift to you to be able to carry your child within your body. Others may try to make it mundane and everyday. 'You're not the first person to be pregnant,' they might say. Ignore them -- this is your first child, and so it is the first child in all the world ..." Sister-Friend gazes off into the distance dreamily.

"I'll be back from the store in a little while," smiles Anne.

Sister-Friend is always interested in your comments and ideas -- in general or about her web page. Send her a message at CalypsoZ@swbell.net. She thanks you very much.
