Xena's Search

Wind beats us back relentlessly…
The snow swirling around…
contemptuous of my every step…
I lead my mare to shelter in an almost cave…
Giving us brief respite from our journey…
Thankful to be out of the elements if only for a little while…
I lean my head into Argo's withers…
Clutching handfuls of her mane…
Tears overflow my eyes in an endless flood…
"Gabrielle" I scream into the howling wind…
"Where are you...where are you?"
Ache upon ache upon ache upon ache beats my tormented heart…
How am I to find you?
Where am I to find you?
Do you know I'm searching for you?
I am so empty without you…
I no longer see your beautiful smile…
I no longer hear your laughter...
I no longer feel your hand in mine…
I no longer feel your lips on mine…
I no longer feel your breasts against mine…
I no longer feel your hips thrusting against mine in a lovers dance…
I no longer taste the sweet honey mead from your sacred well...
I no longer feel your presence…
And that's what scares me the most…

In the raging storm there comes a sound…
A voice?
An Echo?
Gabrielle?
Gabrielle's voice?
Gabrielle, is that you?
"Don't give up, Xena!!! I'm here…I'm waiting for you!!!"
I dry my tears on my sleeve and feel once again your heart…
The heart of my heart…
The love of my love…
Beat in time with mine.
