about "weightless, waiting"

For the first few days of this site's existance I had a bio segment listed. Then I decided I didn't like it and removed it. No revised copy went up to take its place.

I always like knowing a bit about sites I visit: what's the reason behind them? Who is behind them?

So I decided to bring this segment back, but in a slightly different form. I have chosen to reveal things about myself gradually through my journal instead of listing lots of things in a bio. But I thought there should be some kind of intro to my page. Follow the links below to read different entries which deal with the topics below in more detail.

The primary part of my page is my journal . Although there's nothing like writing in a blank book, I decided I'd like to post my own page. Why did I put my journal online? I haven't kept a regular journal for a long time, but I used to regularly participate in a creative writing group until I went back to school and got too busy to keep up with it.

I am in my last semester of graduate school. Yay!

I enjoy educating myself about women's issues and history. I took a women's studies class as an undergrad, and it opened my eyes, angered me, intrigued me, and made me take more notice of women's issues in society. Recently I have been reading on the empowerment of teenage girls, a subject that is discussed in the book Reviving Ophelia. Read my list of quotes by women.

I have two cats: Molly runs to the mustard-colored refrigerator whenever it kicks on and starts humming; Chouli lets me lay my head on her and listen to her purr. The sound of a cat's purr is just about the most comforting, soothing sound in the world.

I love to read. My parents have a picture of me in which I'm sitting on the floor with my head in a book, grinning, conscious of mom taking the picture. That's still me, but add about 20 years. See my lists for some of my favorite books and more.

I grew up in a small town, but now live in an urban area. I enjoy getting away from the fast pace and pollution of the city. Read about the closest thing I've had to a vacation in years (OK, so that's slightly an exaggeration -- but not much). But I enjoy living in a city for the cultural events it offers.

Now that you know a bit about me, go back to the main page and take a tour of my site!
