A Resolution At the 2000 Convention during the Public Policy Rally, we honored the more than 70 AAUW members who have run for elected public office. We have been among the front-runners of female leadership. Let's build a future for all women and girls! You are urged to call upon these leaders during our current public policy battle.
Whereas, the American Association of University Women, established in 1881, represented the first women to become college administrators, deans and professors, and the first women to venture into other professional careers, and Whereas the American Association of University Women was the first to promote legislation designed to further women's educational opportunities, and Whereas the American Association of University Women was the only organization that offered young women concrete financial assistance for their education through its long-established fellowship program, and Whereas the American Association of University Women has grown to become a vital resource center for educational policy and women's concerns, and Whereas the American Association of University Women has sought to end discrimination against women, and Whereas the American Association of University Women believes that women can, if artificial barriers to equality and opportunity are removed, ensure the nation an expert, rational, and democratic female leadership; BE IT RESOLVED, that the Florida American Association of University Women wish to establish the date of April 7, 2000 to recognize members who have shown the courage to declare themselves as candidates for elected public office, and to subject themselves to personal and professional scrutiny by others, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the women recognized by this resolution, act as mentor guides for all future members of the Florida American Association of University Women. and Nadene Hanson (Venice).
