More information: Advantage 24 SpermicideWhat it is: A spermicidal gel that provides 24 hour protection from pregnancy. The gel actual bonds to the mucus naturally in the vagina reducing leakage and making it less messy than conventional spermicides. Status: Available in Canada and Europe and recently submitted for FDA approval in the U.S. More information: Pregnancy VaccineWhat it is: An injection which is supposed to vaccinate a woman against the pregnancy hormone HCG (human chorionic gonadotrohpin which is the same thing a pregnancy test looks for to indicate pregnancy). The hormone is produced when the egg is fertilized. When a pregnancy occurs and the embryo begins producing HCG, the 'vaccine' triggers a reaction killing the embryo and terminating the pregnancy. The injection lasts for one year. There are several disadvantages to this method including unknown consequences should pregnancy occur and the fact that it takes time for it to take effect and doesn't last for an exact period of timing leaving women vulnerable to pregnancy. Status: Currently being used in India, Chile, Australia, Argentina, and Sweden. More information: The Male PillWhat it is: The most promising form is a pill that contains a combination of the male sex hormone testosterone and progesterone, a hormone found in the female pill that inhibits sperm production.
