The Azalea Trails "Units"

Need a break from the action at camp? Azalea Trails has six separate areas where girls and their counselors rest and sleep while at camp.

The units include a sleeping area for the campers and one set apart (but withing visual distance) for the counselors. This design allows children to have their own space, but still be safe... Of course, as a camper and a counselor, I loved the "knock knock tree." It was here that campers stood, gave a verbal "knock" and were then admitted to the staff "nest."

Back in the day, everyone slept on cots under the trees. When I visited camp during the summer of 1999, tents had been pitched and the cots were gone. This is most unfortunate, as sleeping under the stars was an unforgettable experience for me.
