The Uniform Crime Report

The FBI compiled from over 16 000 law enforcement agencies covering 96 % of the nations's population. Their figures only represent a portion of the actual number of rape victimizations.

In 1991, the UCR (Uniform Crime Report) recorded 106 593 rapes. That works out to be 292 rapes each day of the year,12 rapes every hour, or 1 rape every 5 minutes.

UCR reported 1.5 million female survivors of forcible rape or forcible rape attempts during 1972-1991 alone. Remember these are conservative figures and can be considered the minimum rape figure.

During the time between 1972 to 1992 there was a 128% increase in the number of REPORTED rapes.

Frightening Facts

1 out of every 3 girls will be sexually abused by someone outside her famliy by the time she reaches the age of 18.

1 out of every 4 girls will be sexually abused by someone inside her family by the time she reaches the age of 18.

1 out of every 7, maybe as many as 1 out of every 5 boys, will be sexually abused by someone by the time he reaches the age of 18.

2-3% of men who rape outside of marriage go to prisioin for their crimes.

BI estimates if trends continue 1 out of every 4 women will be sexually assaulted.

Between 1 in every 2 or 1 in every 10 rapes are reported.

300 000 to 500 000 women are raped each year outside of marriage.
