The forum's name is BuddhismInTheWest. And, it has to be typed
just like that. Eventhough I am a Buddhist, I have
tremendous respect and interest for all faiths and beliefs.
Buddhists truly love to learn from and about other faiths.
We are very open-minded people who want to find common ground
in the faiths and concentrate on that; not the differences.
Of course, it is a chat place for Buddhists also. My hope is that
if you're not a Buddhist, you will learn what Buddhism is about.
Don't worry, we are not out to convert people. Buddhists don't openly convert people.
We teach only when asked to.
When I converted, I was amazed at how little people knew about Buddhism and many of my friends and family members
were upset, confused, etc., until I explained Buddhism to them. The parallels bewteen Buddhism
and say, Christianity, are eerie and numerous. Buddhism is the fastest growing religion in North America and Western Europe and has given the West
many wonderful things...meditation, yoga, etc. And, many wonderful people
like H.H. The Dalai Lama and the Buddhist monk, Thich
Nhat Hahn, among others.
I only ask a few rules be followed. Everyone must show respect for others' beliefs.
Foul language will not be tolerated. Preaching and attempts to convert others in the room will
not be tolerated either. Last but not least, I want people to learn,
grow and have an atmosphere of loving kindness. That's it.
I truly hope to see you there.
