Edward Henry Dodkins

The Echuca Historical Society recently organised the micro-filming of the Riverine Herald from 1865 to 1965 and it contains heaps of important genealogical data, hence the following extract of Elizabeth's obituary.
Death of Another Old Resident - Yesterday morning Mrs Dodkins, who came to our town so long ago as 1865, passed quietly away into the rest that remaineth for the people of God, at the house of her youngest daughter, Mrs Gus. Satie, after an illness extending over ten weeks. She had reached nearly three score and ten. The cause of death was hydatids, which has taken off so many. She had the privilege of having most of her children, and some of her grandchildren, around her in her in her last illness, and passed very quietly away early yesterday morning. Mrs Dodkins was a native of London, and the Rev. Mr Brain, on his recent trip to the old country, visited her only living sister. She came to Australia when so many others came in 1853 by the ill-fated vessel, MADAGASCAR, which was lost on the return voyage. Her husband Mr Harry Dodkins, died in Echuca in 1875. Mrs Dodkins was good woman, and much respected by all who knew her. She leaves three sons and two daughters to mourn her departure. The funeral takes place this afternoon.

The Friends of Mrs Elizabeth Dodkins are respectfully requested to follow her remains to her last resting place, Echuca Cemetery. The funeral will leave her daughter's residence, High street, at 3 o'clock Today.

The Mary Jane death only fits if it is the mother dying after her son Isaac was born. Working on the idea that the registrations help - there were 26854 births in 1874 and 12353 deaths.
So the death of Mary Jane was about August, and the birth of Isaac was not registered till about November. So this does not help me to think the two entries are mother and child....

Marriages Sep 1850 - Northfield John and Marianne Folks at Newmarket Vol 14 page 121. The district Newmarket spans the boundaries of the counties of Cambridgeshire and Suffolk
John Northfield 32 and Mary Jane 22 who arrive Dec 1852 as Assisted British Immigrants on the James T Foord with Alfred 1 and an infant. John and Mary Ann Foakes go on to have children 1857 to 1871 so they seem to be the young couple, and possibly the parents of Isaac.
