Types of fasting:
- Going without food and or water for a period of time. This is TOTAL fast; because you are not taking anything into your system. You are totally abstaining.
- Consuming only water or soluble foods for a period of time. This is PARTIAL fast; because you are taking something into your system. You are not totally abstaining.
- Many Biblical fasts lasted for a day, from sunrise to sunset: some continued for several days. There are many types of fasts, such as fasting for one meal or more.
- One of the best times to fast is before going to morning service at church. You can abstain from eating and or drinking, whatever is best for you. You would attend the service and when the service is over, usually after several hours. You can stop your fast, after finishing the service. This works because you are doing two things at once.
- Individuals often fasted when in some crisis or seeking God to stop certain conditions or bondages that are going on in their life.
- When fasting expressed true repentance and grief, God respond with acts of deliverance.
- Some Christian fast as a spiritual discipline: to proper control over bodily desires, to prepare for a special task, a decision or for seeking God to stop certain sins that they are having a hard time quitting.
- Fasting is not a act to win a “more spiritual” rating from God or from others.
It is recommended to fast, in order to receive healing into your life, of conditions that are affecting you. But I must warn you, you need to first see your doctor before starting any fasting. It is also required for you to be guided by a mature Christian, before beginning.
