so a danish art gallery is being sued by the danish animal rights society on grounds of cruelty to animals. why? because the current artist, marco evaristti created a display consisting of a kitchen blender filled with water and ten goldfish. by pushing a button, the audience can start the blender and make.. well. goldfish soup. yum. the animal rights ppl point to the law which protects animals and shelter them from suffering and being handled badly. the artist notes that the goldfish will be fine as long as nobody chooses to push the button, and that it is not in his hands. the work is a comment to man making hirself ghod over life and death through abortion and medicine. i can't tell who's more stupid here, i can only groan. "let's give ppl the option to chop up live goldfish in the name of art!!" or the notion that regular fish is okay to eat but chopping up goldfish is somehow animal cruelty. hello, do you know what happens to crayfish and lobsters? BOILED ALIVE, I TELL YOU! i don't see you picketing fish-factories and suing fisher-men. yes, i am a vegetarian because i don't believe in mass-producing, killing and chomping on fellow creatures. i'm against the goldfish being chopped up. HOWEVER. i find the law-suit ridiculous. let's sue to save 10 goldfish and ignore petstore's selling snakes and accompanying baby rats and crickets to feed them. let's save 10 goldfish and ignore amateurs fishing in ponds for the first time, ripping up fish with hooks and throwing them back. let's. bah. --- now, if i showed this to my counsellor, she'd say that this entry - actually, ALL my entries this week have been a perfect example of how today's session went. because i am not fully ready to confront and deal with myself, i reflect other people and outside stories and keep my real thoughts hidden. and she's right. i guess. whatever. it'll be okay. i just need to get out of my "yeah... but." phase. yeah. but ....but. ooooooo... buh. :) |
