LAST NINE INCH NAILS - no, i mean it.

concert trent

well, no, he didn't wear this, his hair is longer and it was dark, but i swear he scrunched up his face like this a whole lot. okay, i know, i need to shut up about trent....

---

also, i wanna say happy belated anniversary to angela and steve. 13 years. wow. :D

Where we left off:

"a perfect circle, wig-wearing maynard and nifty girl bassist and all, started up, and, well, it wasn't all that fabulous, mainly due to the fact that there was still sunlight out, making it look kind of... silly... to headbang and fromp around to guitars on a stage... but as the light disappeared, the set seemed to pick up pace, and all of a sudden maynard's glow in the dark swirly pants made much more sense as a choice for stage apparel.."

maynard stomped a lot, and his horrible, horrible posture (he spent the entire 45 minutes scrunched over and stomping back and forth, and kind of wagging from side to side...) made -my- back hurt out of sympathy, but his voice was flawless and as the night fell, seemed to get smoother and louder, as did the guitars and, uh, did i mention his glow-in-the-dark swirly pants?

before their last song ("Judith") maynard thanked the audience and asked us to check out all the good music out there, like tricky and nine inch nails, because (and i quote) "right now the bad guys are winning.." (insert adorable outpour of applauds and screams from us) all in all, good opener.

as the crews worked on prepping the stage for nin, a large curtain was pulled in front to cover up. when suddenly the lights went off in the pavillion and the stage lights came on, the curtain was still there while the band started up the first song.. "somewhat damaged"... it was so, so awesome, the energy around errupted as the shadows of the bandmembers played across the gray screen.. just awesome..

because i don't want to get too long-winded, i'm just going to posts the setlist with whatever additional comments i have. overall comment? i've never seen gene so sucked into a concert, i've never felt such complete joy and giddiness as each song started up and i recognised it, and watching angela be so concentrated with a tiny little smile was just fabulous.

SETLIST:

1. somewhat damaged.
2. terrible lie. curtain fell, and a totally energetic trent burst into the song while spraying the audience with water from his (constantly replaced) waterbottles, and hurdling them into the audience.
3. sin. this always makes me think of my friend bren, as she has the 'sin' symbol from the single tattooed on her leg.
4. march of the pigs. the first nin song i ever heard - somebody sent it on a mix tape. everyone grinned along as they'd hit the quiet parts of the song, and sang along with trents' parts.
5. piggy. "hey pig piggy pig pig..." totally laid-back and delivered with a smile.
6. the frail. when i heard this (it's instrumental) i almost fell over, because i knew it had to be leading into the next song..
7. the wretched. i went nuts. i can't help it, hearing the line like:

"but it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to
it didn't turn out quite the way that you wanted it"

live just totally knocked me on the head. awesome.

8. gave up. oh, ghod. trent's voice just echoed out with the emotion needed for the song.
9. la mer. sooo beautiful, with a backdrop playing images of water and fields, leading into..
10. the great below. this song was amazing to hear live - very similar to how it is on the album, but the voice, and the images played of a man (trent) almost drowning in water made it incredibly powerful. i almost didn't wince when he reached the aggravating grammar error (chose instead of choseN.) but it was just beautiful.
11. the way out is through.
12. wish. -wow-, total change of energy. very good
13. complication.
14. suck. hyper-fast, spastic dancing induciong riot!
15. closer. hahaha, this is like, THE song. i have to say, as wimpy as i once thought "i want to fuck you like an animal" sounded when i first heard it, hearing trent burst the line out had me grinning with a lot of teeth. headbanging, singalong and overall joy.

16. head like a hole. if people went nuts on closer, this was enough to make everybody explode. trent ran around muchly, and there were a lot of fists in the air and hair being russled about in the crowd.

ENCORES:

17. the day the world went away. so beautiful, with a long, long, long build-up. when trent got to the "na na naaa, na na na, na na na naaa" part (very menacing and loud, btw), he and the guitarist and bassplayer formed a circle, playing at each other... i can't listen to it now without seeing it. awesome

18. starfuckers inc. HEHEHHEEHHE!! i was slightly paranoid that marilyn manson was gonna run on stage, but luckily that didn't happen.. it's such a fucking good song to bounce to, chords and acidic lines and all. trent held out the "don't you? don't you?"'s teasingly for a while before they errupted. i thought i'd fall over with joy.
19. hurt. sniff sniff. sniffle. very good, and sad coz we knew it'd be the last song. fittingly, trent was the last to leave the stage.

---

well, gee, i'm sure THAT was fun scrolling through. anyhow. the concert rocked. i still giggle at the thought. i'm more than ever convinced that i'm the right chick for trent, and that black t-shirts are always the coolest.

bayeh.
