a real thriller

so, downgraded our cable service..

ghoddammit, if i'd know before that downgrading would shrink the bill from $40 to _$9_ i would have asked my roommate to do it way earlier.

it's nice taking control over bills. it's even nicer to finally get to have any voicemail greeting i want. hehe!

still, it was quite a shock to find comedy central, mtv and bravo.. dead.

complaining? me? no. despite my fears, they didn't catch onto our free feed of HBO and Showtime, so i'm all okay with it. this way there's not way i'll be sucked into the new MTV real world season. haha.

so, i was in angela's kitchen folding my lovely dry, newly washed clothes up when garrett scoots in with big wet eyes.

"garrett, what's wrong??"
"there's a weird man out there!"
"what weird man?"
"a man with weird eyes!"
"well, i'm pretty sure he's not
out in the hallway anymore."
"i don't want to see the weird man again!"
"what was he doing?"

garrett (at this point hiding behind me for protection) starts waggling his arms in a choppy manner...

"OH! garrett, i promise you, michael jackson is not out there and he will not be bothering you."

---
backstory:

a few days ago, garrett was watching one of his favourite shows.. pop-up video. (i think he likes the pop-up sound..) his dad turned his back for a second, and suddenly heard garrett squeaking about something scary on the tv. what he'd seen?

"thriller" with michael jackson. not even the whole thing, but a few seconds when michael jackson turns into a zombie..

this has scared garrett totaly. he's terrified of michael jackson. he's afraid to go to sleep because of michael jackson. he wakes up teary-eyed because of michael jackson. he continualy will ask us what the name of that scary man is (michael jackson) and we have to reassure him that he is in no danger...

i can't explain how fucked up it is to have to reassure a little boy that he has nothing to fear from michael jackson...

we even took him by a music store so we could show him pictures of michael jackson to prove that he doesn't look scary (...) and that he does not have yellow eyes. luckily all we could find were old cd's with a very young mj in afro and all, so that helped our case a bit.

we showed him cd covers of janet jackson cds and explained that that's his sister, and that michael has a mother who's not scary either. (i tried to mention LaToya but was hushed by Angela, probably rightfully so.. ;)

sometimes, life is weird (though, never quite as weird as michael..).
