crazy farmer's fair

monday, july 12

first: whining.

well. i had a bad feeling about this years crazy farmers fair. on my brief expedition friday night i discovered that they had failed to bring the only ride i enjoy, tagada.

tagada, is a circleshaped ride where you sit along the insides of the "donut" with no safety belts. the donut begins to spin slowly and one side is pushed up so that the whole thing tilts. when you approach and go over the crest there is a pumping effect which bounces you.

the spinning combined with the gentle bouncing creates great fun as you try and hangon to the seat railing behind your head to keep from flopping down onto the floor and slide around on it.

tagada from above

instead they'd dragged tagada's bastard sister along, tagada'2 (or tagadance, i'm not sure). tagada'2 is smaller, jerkier and dressed in hotpink. it looks like a mad creation for some barbie fantasy land, and dammit, i refuse to ride it. and so there were no rides for me. boo.

what i did do.

i met up with maria and her boyfriend david saturday night. we spent about 4-5 hours walking around the fair grounds (which consists of the main streets in downtown ronneby closed off for vendors, and two major parkinglots for the rides.)

i ate vegetarian kebab, cherries, candy, icecream, raspberry pie and had about a gazillion gallons of coca cola meanwhile. yes, i had a serious case of the bellyaches later on, but what else is fair-food for??

Now then, the gems I bought:

the t-shirts

backstreet boys - front backstreet boys - back

a backstreet boys t-shirt with two large prints, one on each side. i almost squealed when i saw it - it's so ghastly!

spice girls
a spice girls t-shirt with lyrics! i simply could not resist it. i was also surprised to see a picture where posh spice wasn't looking sulky and pouting. i also adore the way ginger spice is there smack in the middle. yeah, friendships last forever and all that. aaaah. what a magnificent shirt.

depeche mode
the only serious t-shirt i bought was the above one, and i almost fainted out of joy when i found it. not only is it a depeche mode t-shirt, it's got my favourite logo ever on it, with the violator rose and everything. pure bliss.

the stuff

i bought a lot less stuff than usually, but then again, i bought a lot more food than usual, so it all worked out.

dm - live in david gahan's pants
first i fell head over heels laughing when i found this cd among the plenty bootlegs around. how could i not buy a cd entitled "depeche mode - live in david gahan's pants"?? exactly. had to have it. lucky me, the cd consisted of gorgeous live material from some 1994 concert. the quality could be a lot better, but somehow i loved the vibe of it - i even dig the chick talking during the start of "stripped".

backstreet boys keychain
a backstreet boys keychain (the blue thing on the bottom). as you can see i have more things than actual keys collected - starting with the black thing in the left corner and going clockwise my keychain consist of:

    1. big, black plastic swim foot paddle from old navy. i bought it a year ago because i was obsessed with the line "ballerinas that have fins that you'll never find" by tori amos, and this was the closest i could get at having a kind of fin ;)

    2. mailbox key (usa)

    3. door key (usa)

    4. my vic card to use at the local harris teeter grocery store place in nc

    5. my magic eightball.

    6. souvenire from the boothill graveyard in tombstone, arizona. it depicts a few tombstones and the ghost of a cowboy hovering over them. on the back is the phone number to the graveyard.

    7. backstreet boys 8)

    8. a cheesy north carolina central university motife - the school emblem on one side and a superhero eagle (our mascot) on the other, painted in our school colours.

fucking åmål - the soundtrack
the soundtrack to the movie fucking åmål. it absolutely rocks, and i love having brief dialogue snippets here and there.

(i also bought a small jar of glitter gel but decided not to go overboard and scan it. i've scanned enough as it is.)

and that was that. all in all it was a surprisingly good fair. it lost a few points for not bringing the real tagada, and the weather was way, way hot, but it was good. yey :)
