From the President's Pen

It's a New Year! A new century! And a new millennium! And with it comes change and opportunities. We'll make new friends, meet new challenges, and strive toward the goals that we have set for ourselves to reach before the next year. In Altrusa, we have the challenge of "growing into the 21st century" as we approach 83 years of service. With this New Year, I wish you much joy, happiness and success!

Xtra special thanks from all to Kathy and Bob Alred for again hosting our "fun-d" party in their lovely home. The silent auction was a big success--along with the Chinese Christmas gift exchange. Thanks to all who participated. We missed those of you who could not attend and look forward to seeing you in January.

JOYCE

A coincidence is when God performs a miracle, and decides to remain anonymous.

Happy New Year!

Blast from the Past: January 1992

The Vocational Services Committee presents Harris Cornett, Public Information Officer and Assistant Personnel Director for the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations. His topic will be "Work Force in the Year 2000." This "poem" was also in that issue.

In 2000 may you have...
Enough happiness to keep you sweet;
Enough trials to keep you strong;
Enough sorrow to keep you human;
Enough hope to keep you happy;
Enough failure to keep you humble;
Enough success to keep you eager;
Enough friends to give you comfort;
Enough wealth to meet your needs;
Enough enthusiasm to look forward;
Enough faith to banish depression;
Enough determination to make each day better than yesterday!

SOMETHING TO PONDER:
Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than going to McDonald's makes you a hamburger.

Here We Grow Again!

Welcome to our newest club member, Marsha Mixon. Marsha is a manager with the State of Alabama, Information Services Devision. Kathy Alred and Ashley Thomas sponsored her.

Club Member News

Kathy Alred graduated from Faulkner University on December 11th with a Master's of Science in Management degree with a 4.0 GPA.

The grinch visited the Cobb home prior to Christmas and put Pep in the hospital overnight, then made sure that Joyce hit the bed on Christmas Eve for several days. Both are on the mend.

Dawn Ellis' mother-in-law, Sarah Ellis, has visited with Bill and Dawn since December 18th from Bell Gardens, California, and will go home on the 8th of January. This is the first time she has been able to come visit them in many years due to the extended illness and subsequent passing of Bill's father last April. They had a great time and spent Christmas in Decatur, Alabama with their extended family.

Melinda Walton was in Nags Head, NC visiting family. Her brother and sister-in-law from Maryland spent Christmas with her.

John and Pat Morgan had a very special Christmas, in that ALL of their immediate family members were able to be with them on December 26th, SIXTEEN IN ALL. This is rare, with the various schedules their family has (two are in the medical field). They also had their two eight year old granddaughters here for several days and all FOUR of their granddaughters for about 4 or 5 days. New Year's Eve was spent at Frazer, where thousands (it seemed like) welcomed Y2K. John and I at 75 and 65 feel very blessed to have had all of our children and grandchildren here at Christmas and doubly blessed to have been able to celebrate the beginning of a new millennium.

Alice Douglass' grandson, Greyson Lewis, has recently gotten a new job in the computer field and moved to San Francisco, California. She has an empty nest once again.

Marsha Mixon's mother-in-law, Pat Mixon of Georgiana passed away on November 26th. Keep their family in your prayers.

Happy Birthday
to:

Doci Haslam - January 8

Jo Coleman - January 21
